really anxious after NHS appointment

Hi all

I had my first nhs appointment ( on line) with the respiratory consultant. He said he’d fried to call to get me in but was unable to leave a message ?!

I was honest and told him I’d seen another respiratory consultant and rheumatologist privately. He knows the other consultant. He said he couldn’t get involved with my case and I said that was fine. He said he had looked at both my X-rays done in feb and then 6 weeks later ( mid March) and there had been little improvement on them.

I told him that the other consultant thought I’d had covid pneumonia and he said ‘no I don’t think so as most people now don’t have covid affect their lungs with the new strain’. I said my oxygen levels were now 97+ and I was not breathless. It was only my dry skin that was worrying me. I said I was having lots of blood tests.

my question is - has anyone else had this experience with crackles on lungs and not good xray but good oxygen levels and feeling loads better ? As my last xray was 6 weeks ago , maybe it would look better now? I just feel worried again but surely if something was active I wouldn’t be improving in my self but getting worse ?

Thank you Bronte x

I can’t really help with your queries. And I got a bit lost as to which ‘he’ referred to which consultant. It does sound very confusing and understandably worrying. But you do say you feel better. Sometimes we are just stuck with having to wait and see. So hang in there and let us know how it develops.

thank you Katink

It was a bit confusing !

I think m a nut shell the nhs consultant disagreed with my private one ( who seemed more positive ) and told me of no improvement in my X-rays from my feb one to my mid March one !😩

I do hope that you are able to get a clearer picture of the information you have been given.I know it incurs extra costs but can you ring your private consultants secretary and get the queries you have answered?

.Do hope that you have the information you need soon.

Best wishes x

That sounds a great idea - let us know how you get on and remember you have many helpful and friendly lung buddies on here x

Try not to worry. I agree with you. If you're feeling much better & oxygen sats good all sounds very positive. My consultant always says, go with how you feel. 😊X

That is an unfortunate attitude of your NHS Consultant. I have often had one of each or two NHS ones.I would have a long chat with your private one, most of them work in the NHS as well and can transfer you on to their list. This I have also done.

Good Luck

Thank you for your reply . I will see the private consultants again once my bloods are back. The rheumatologist has said the the respiratory consultant that they can have a meeting once the bloods are back so they are liaising which is good x

Its very difficult when two consultants dont agree and you are left in the middle. I must admit to not having a very good opinion of my nhs consultant and thought he was pretty rubbish in most of what he didnt do for me so would go with your gut feeling. If you are feeling good and dont have any problems then I would be loathe to do anything and just wait and see what your rheumy doctor suggests once the blood tests are in . I have a brilliant rheumy doctor who has moved heaven and earth for me so am very lucky and hope you are too x

I think you had the same "respiratory consultants" that I had, they drove me daft with different diagnosis.

I have had crackles in the past with normal for ME 02 levels. - But that's a by your way.

On a COPD review my doctor sent me for an X Ray and it came back abnormal. my consultant did not know what it was so off for a PET Scan, That showed the abnormailty had moved to the right - My consultant had left so another ordered a CT Scan with no contrast - I got a letter saying

" I am please to tell you your abnormality has gone, so I took your "abnormality" to the Radiographer and they said "your "abnormality" is MORE SCARRING.

So being treat for another condition it was found I had a 6mm nodule on my right lung, and this was NEW - in other words apart from the abnormality I did not have, or did!

I have wrote this to show you, you are not the only one confused with abnormal chest X Rays.

thank you Ern ! I sometimes think that the consultants forget that a person is the owner of the lungs they are talking about ! I often feel like a case study 😩
