Lung congestion

I suffer from bronchiectasis and I am asking if a drug has been developed that reduces the amount of mucus forming. If so I think it would reduce the frequency of the needs to cough up and clear the lungs?

Im on mucodyne x4 a day if that helps. It acts to loosen the mucus so to cough up easier. Hope it helps. I also produced too much mucous and was given an antibioti by the respitary clinic in the hospital called Azithromycin. Cleared up my bug and my phlegm also. Took for 9 months. Not producing any phlegm anymore. Karen.

I take Mucodyne which thins out the phlegm. I don't have a cough nor do I have mucus or phlegm so it obviously works. I take one twice a day.

Hi Carnut :-)

From this forum waaaaay back after being diagnosed with severe Emphysema, I learned of N'Acetyl-Cysteine, started taking it @ 600mg a day, sputum heaving reduced to almost nil in a week, & the collateral benefits of the anti-oxidant properties quickly became evident as well!

Good luck Buddy :-)

I always run things past my GP because I take prescription drugs to control my high blood pressure and cholesterol and carbocisteine and do not want any contra issues by taking anything else. I do appreciate the tips I get very much though from fellow sufferers xx

Thank you for the info, I take Carbocisteine 300mg x2 in 24 hour period but although it helps loosen things I feel I am still producing too much ‘gunk’ usually overnight. Two kind people have recommended Mucodyne so I think I will ask my GP about that. Thanks for your response. Chris

Be aware though that Carbosteine and Mucodyne tablets are one and the same Mucodyne just being the generic name. There is also to be considered, these meds although they do a good job for most people do have the potential for actually creating the mucus and gunk. There is a fine line between adequate dose for the current condition at the time and taking too much and creating mucus.

Have suffered horrendously for years with both stubborn phlegm and mucus.have tried the salt pipes etc and found nothing works for me. However 18 months ago J started to drink a pint of hot water diluted with Tesco Orange pineapple and lemon religiously every morning.I have told others who have laughed and sniggered at this, But my years of agonising and leaning over washbasins have been over for the larger portion of those 18 months I have no weazing my chest feels amazingly clear. IT WORKS FOR ME.

I read that the acupressure point STOM 40 controls the phlegm in the body but am not sure whether it should be used as there cold be a reason for the ove production of phlegm. Has any got experience with this?
