Hi Diane,
When I was accessed for my BiPAP machine I was given a sleep study to do at home the same night, I then returned the equipment to the hospital the day after. They can also request you to do the same test as an inpatient at the hospital as an alternative. Once you have done the sleep study, they then access wether you need NIV after your test.
If they find you need the NIV machine after your test, they will then arrange an inpatient appointment for you to set your machine up, once you are set up and they are satisfied everything is working properly with your machine, you can then take it home to use.
I hope I have been of some help.
Ian.
Thank you xx does they do any test while I'm there xx
Hi Diane,
I’m not sure, I was told I needed BiPAP when I was admitted to hospital in April 2017 with Type II Respiratory Failure, I used BiPAP when I was an inpatient, I was also on oxygen 24/7, I was sent home after a week on oxygen 24/7 1 litre and 2 litres ambulatory oxygen.
In October 2017 I did my sleep study at home, because my oxygen was dropping dangerously low at bedtime, I was then told I would be getting my BiPAP machine set up in February 2018 as an inpatient, but on New Year’s Day 2018 I was rushed back in to hospital suffering from Oxygen Retention and a bout of pneumonia, I was then given my own BiPAP as an inpatient and sent home with my machine.
Ian xx
