Ex-THC Vape user with lung pains

I will just repost my Bio here. It covers most everything. I’m just looking for help and maybe (hopefully) reassurance. I’m 35, I have 2 beautiful kids. I just want to see them grow up. I made mistakes and wish I could change things. Here is my story:

I started vaping THC around 2015. I really didn’t completely kick the habit until 2022. I started feeling lung burning/pain somewhere in the last 2 years of vaping. I didn’t think much of it. Fast forward to today and I am still (off and on) getting lung pain and cramping feelings and heaviness in my lungs. I exercise often, i do feel more short of breath than I think I should. The pain doesn’t go away when resting. I am just looking for answers. I have a Pulmonary Doctor Appt that I’m currently referred for (waiting for them to schedule). But I’m paranoid that it is something serious. I don’t have a cough, I had a clear chest X-ray last year (June 2023) so I’m just hoping for help and maybe people with similar stories. Thank you!! 🙏🙏

Hi, just to welcome you, I'm afraid I know next to nothing about vaping (except that it makes me sad to see it). I've not seen many posts about it on this forum over the years I'm afraid. You could call the helpline on 0300 222 5800 during UK office hours, they may offer guidance. I wish you the best. Peege

Welcome to the forum.the important thing is moving on, you exercise often.do drink plenty of fluids. I take the attitude,as best I can, that there's nothing to worry about until the dr says there is. Good that xray is clear.it wld be gd to have a ct scan which will give a more detailed picture of lungs& Airways x

Yes a CT with contrast would be best

I've had a similar situation though not from vaping, the long and short of it is, now its been brought to your attention, you may need to make beneficial lifestyle changes. Avoid Dr google he tends to generalise. Good luck to you & hopefully you get good advice.

thank you everyone! I’ve definitely made lifestyle changes. More water, lots of exercise, eating better, intermittent fasting. I’m open to it also being anxiety but it feels too real. It’s a big weight on me right now. My wife has been incredibly supportive. She suggested i also join a forum like this so I’m here :)

Yr doing all u can, which is great. Anxiety can cause/ aggravate breathing probs. Take a look on aluk website.there is a lot of info & advice. I find controlled breathing - pursed lips technique a gd tool to use whn u have breathing problems.practise when sat watching TV etc so it's familiar to use whn Yr breathless and it may help calm Yr anxiety too. Its gd to inhale whn doing it as deep&slow as poss, stretching lungs. Stopping vaping after so long is a big achievement so we'll done.i imagine it's not helped anxiety x

Welcome. Lots of friends on here who you can talk to and it helps to talk about our health problems and fears, especially with compassionate people who understand. We can’t give medical advice obviously. I hope things will get better for you. It’s good you are seeing a pulmonary doctor, i hope you don’t have to wait too long.

Take care.

Welcome to the forum. There have been some posts in the past about lung pains. I wonder if you can find them among the pinned posts. Failing that contact the helpline. Best wishes.

Hi and welcome, you’ve definitely came to the right place. Anxiety is cruel, I know as I too am a sufferer but since I started meditation it’s not too bad so maybe speak to your doctor about that too. Lung pain I feel in my back as I have bilateral pleural effusion which shows on X-rays , it’s not a burning pain it’s a dull sometimes stabbing pain. Please get your anxiety under control and the only way mine was helped was meditation . Anxiety can make you think all sorts that aren’t even there and panic over the slightest thing, it’s horrible when it’s playing havoc, I’m not saying you are the same as I was but just incase.

Take care

Just wanted to thank all of you for the Welcome 🙂 It definitely helps having someone to talk to. Anxiety is a real issue I have in many situations so that is something I definitely want to work on. The pain feels so real and radiating that it really is hard to think it’s anxiety. But I’m open to it once I get an answer from the pulmonary doctor. I really appreciate all the responses! I don’t usually do this 😄

BaroniF88, First of all please do not beat yourself up! That will get you know where! Concentrate on the positive - you are addressing your life style and your good lady is giving you support. My late father used to tell me never to worry about something you have no control over. Let the medical guys do their stuff. You are certainly not on your own, but by stopping vape you are on the top of the stack. Nobody can turn the clocks back, but you can start your own time zone. Pat yourself on the back ! The fact that you are exerising and halted the vape then you body is sensing something is going on so you get pains or whatever, go with the flow. Finally, speak with the doc, or your specialists they will have dealt with this before.

Keep up the good work.

Pedro.

Hi - Welcome to the forum. Vaping contains diacety which I read can cause problems.

Your symptoms are mainly pain, vaping damage is normally breathing difficulties.

I have what I thought was lung pain , like you it was there even at rest. I have had this a while, I think it more muscular than lung related, my pain that is.

You had a clear xRay last year - Then it seems the most common lung injury from vaping is Fibrosis (Scarring) So you X Ray was clear.

You need to keep that Pulmonary Doctor to get whatever is causing the burning pain sorted.

I smoked and I got COPD and stopping smoking slowed it down did not go away.

I have never liked the idea of vaping. putting water in lungs, with chemicals to make them taste good.

I honestly don't know what is causing your pains, so you had a clear XRay - You don't have a cough and you can "exercise often" -All good but you need seeing.

I think Pat1 had it nailed - "Nothing to worry about until doctor says it is" - Worrying won't help. will make you feel worse.

None of what I have said is advice, I am not a doctor and can't offer advice - Just what maybe.

Good Luck.
