COPD Assessment Test

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all ok.

I've been requested to fill in a CAT form for a review with a clinical pharmacist. What I am never sure of when I answer these questions is the following:

Do you answer them, based on when you feel worse, such as in the evening, or do you base it on when you have the odd good day or something in between?

I have asked the COPD nurse, but she never seemed to sure.

Any feedback, much appreciated.

COPD Assessment Test .

A form with points that are added up to make a total score .

Oh I’ve had to complete different forms - for asthma and one for COPD prior to reviews by nurse and surgery pharmacist. Not sure if they are that assessment form. Don’t remember points scoring?? Usually fill out something via my mobile phone…..

COPD Assessment Test .

Yes ,I filled one in before an appointment with a clinical pharmacist at my health centre .

I think I filled in my worst, but honestly can’t remember …..I wonder if you could take the paper form with you and ask the pharmacist .

I filled in an online survey too.

The pharmacist offered an alternative inhaler , but I said I would keep it in mind if I got worse . So made a note of it for the future .

This is a telephone appointment, but interesting that you were offered an alternative inhaler. It's being ran by glaxo... drugs company, via my GPs, so I can't help wondering if they have some new drug!

I would say worst day/time, like when applying for pip or blue badge.

Yes, I have filled in one of these forms. There were some more specific questions such as 'how often in a week do you feel breathless' but most are rather subjective. I wished there was a blank space where additional information could be added, but I suppose the nature of the 'review' is to see whether our conditions are under control or not.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. I'm at my worst first thing in the morning and in the evenings, as I am tired. However, some things aren't good any time in the day - will fill the form in, but not bother too much.

I remember filling something in many years ago where I had to rate things on a scale of one to five' As I recall it had things like walking slowly, walking at the same pace as someone else, walking uphill and stairs. I then marked my breathlessness. If I did it now the score would be five on every question.

I found it very hard to complete the form as they wanted to know how I had been in the past week. Well, I'd had the best week I'd had for ages, hadn't I, so the score came out really well. If they'd asked me a few weeks earlier, it wouldn't have been so good.

I can't really see much point in doing it as my condition varies so much. I can feel fine today but tomorrow I might have a nasty chest infection. I get up everyday crossing my fingers that all will be well, and I imagine that many others on here will be the same.

What's happened to having a discussion about when you feel your best and when you feel your worst? All these score sheets drive me mad!

xx Moy

As you will see in the notes at the top of the form you asked to put how you feel currently. You are not asked how you were last week or last month. Also you are not asked to come up with an average over a period.
