Bear with me on this there is a point relating to copd , now ive come off cloud 9 i have decided i was lucid enough to put finger to keypad.
At 2.30am ( approx) i awoke in excruciating pain, ( unbeknown to me i was getting rid of a kidney stone ) i managed until 4am then phoned the ambulance , i could hardly move , im not soft and have been in pain b4 ( as we all have) but this was unusual as i was passing blood and vomiting by this time , luckily the ambulance arrived in 10mins morphine was administered as was introvenous paracetamol to i could relax , xrays done and urinary appointment made , ( now to the point) the doc asked if i was on calcium supplements because of my copd i said yes, she thought my d3 tabs and alendronic acid might be to high of a dose so blood tests was orderd but because of backlog was not expected for hours as results not life or death, has anyone else had problems with over prescribed calcium , im not saying this is my diagnosis but its food for thought
Just to say im home now feeling ok just exhausted, i was worried about my 02 stats but they never went below 92% , sorry ive prattled on everyone but calcium build up never crossed my mind

What a todo, sounds like you were in incredible pain, so glad you got sorted quite quickly. I've not heard of that either but sounds like it should be someting we who take D3 and / or alendronic acid, should be aware of. I hope your results are ok and you continue to improve. X
It's advisable,if supplementing with D3 to always take its co-factors as well. These being magnesium and vit K2, never D3 alone since is will then increase calcium uptake which can indeed cause stone problem (but obviously not the only cause of stones). Best always to get levels checked before any of the above supplementation
Not the dramatic experience id recommend HH, a beautiful sunset or seeing my granddaughter off to her first day at school are dramatic enough for me lol
Hi there, hope you are feeling better. The fact that you are on alendronic acid stood out for me. My dentist sent me to see a hospital consultant because I was on it (said it was in the guidelines). Have they recommended you come off it? I did. I know kidney stones are painful - the only time I saw my father on his knees crying was when he passed a stone.
Going to have a chat with my respitory specialist when i see her soon about the alendronic acid ,as to the pain owwwwwuch , couldnt keep still it was unbearable ,but its gone now and ive got pain meds if it comes back
As with any medication there is a balance between too little and too much. I worked on a renal unit and calcium supplements can cause raised levels within the blood. Obviously you where given supplements for a reason. Best advice would be to speak with your GP as there are options to get the balance right. Stones are not the only danger of too much calcium and your bloods may need to be monitored closely.
Thanks house1, got a few twinges of the pain this morning so i took the painmeds and hopefully have headed it off at the pass ,i see the urologist 23rd of this month
Glad you're improved and dont need the morphine ( it is good tho isn't it?) Hope you can sort your misbehaving levels with your respiratory bod.
I've recently been discharged from haematology and was very happy. The copy letter arrived blah blah, return to GP care. Great. On the second page cc to me there was a ps. On discussing the scan at mdt post clinic .... the outcome is... I'm going for ultrasound as I have a slightly larger calcified this and a new attenuation that in my left kidney. What a let down. I didn't know I had a calcified wotsit in the beginning. They say one door closes another opens? I didn't know that meant hospital depts.
Keep taking the tablets, dont let the pain build up x
Thanks m8 ,hope your clacified whatsit can be broken up with ultra sound and the morphine was a god send ,it'll ger sorted for both of us im sure , good luck
I'd been told that about the baby association , when they asked me on the 1 to 10 pain scale where i was i laughed and said guess , paramedic said 10 ,i nodded through the pain , the pain meds took it down to a 4 then 3 and finally a 2 which was no problem
Like you said at least you get something from childbirth , thankfully i dont have to look after my pain for at least 20yrs until it leaves for uni lol
Oooh! that sounds painful, glad you identified the problem/cause. I will re-access my intake of calcium, but always have it with vit d/k and magnesuim, keep us updated on your progress and get well soon x
Good morning izb1, just wondering why do you take cut d//k nd magnesium? Does it benefit lung conditions. I take vit D3 three times a day I don’t even know why iv been on them for about 3-4 years now I’m sure it was for my bones to strengthen them again not sure. Hope you’re having a good day take care 🌹🌹
Good morning to you. I'm glad you're home now and not in any pain. I don't know anything about calcium supplements but I just wanted to say I'm glad you're home. Have a better day soulboy118
Hi soulboy, I’m sorry to hear you had to go through this I know it’s a terrible pain did you manage to pass the stones or are the urology dr going to deal with it. My friend nearly died because for days he just kept taking pain killers he’s a farmer and won’t take a second away from caring for his animals anyway his girlfriend called an ambulance as he was in such a terrible state, turned out the kidney stones were very large and they took him into surgery right away. I’m not trying to scare you I’m only sharing my friends story as I myself didn’t realise how dangerous kidney stones can be. I do hope now you’ve taken pain meds today they help don’t let that pain buildup 👍 keep on top of it. If youv not passed the stones I’m hoping you don’t end up back in hospital . I hope you get a good understanding urology dr take good care of yourself , you poor thing youv been through a lot all the best 👍🌹🌹
Thanks dog12 , unfortunately i had to go back today , pain got to much for me and the meds they left me with were ineffective, got new meds as no intervention is capable until the 23rd of this month , fingers crossed i can keep pain free
Sorry to hear you have had such a nasty episode.Hope you new meds do the trick and you can rest up and take it easy.I take prescribed Adcal D3 for osteoporosis caused by too many courses of the devil pills [steroids] and I have not thought about the possible build up of calcium and the potential for kidney stones.Keep us updated as to what your lung doctor says. Look after your self and sending you best wishes xx
Goodness me that sounds painful and yes i have heard from many people who have had them that the pain is worse than childbirth so can sympathise to an extent as childbirth is agony 😵
In regards to the vitamin d3 supplements, I have not heard of this contributing but it may possibly. Doctors can check the kidney stone which passes and test to see what it's mineral content is and from that they are able to find out if it is caused by diet etc and high calcium. As other members have suggested, maybe taken in combination with the other supplements suggested and discuss with the docs if it may be a possible cause.
I recommend researching serrapeptase and the the combination of turmeric and black pepper as anti-inflammatory supplements or to include in your diet. There is evidence serrapeptase helps with pulmonary fibrosis. Obviously this should be discussed with doctors too and to be sure it won't affect your current medication.
One thing which i can recommend for the kidney stone inflammation/ or any inflammation in general is having a glass of warm milk with a 1/2 a teaspoon of turmeric and pinch of black pepper. I come from a south Asian family and turmeric is a staple in our cooking and diet. It is used a lot as natural medicine and especially after people have passed kidney stones etc as the inside tissue is inflamed. A little sweetner is recommended with it as not to everyone's taste but it's healing properties are only being proven now through research but have been used for hundreds of years in Asian culinary. Hope this helps and wish you all the best ☺
