Fed up !!

Having had all types of counselling for what i now know is panic disorder and while it has been helpful its not enough for me to carry on my usual life. So the gp finally agreed to let me try an anti anxiety medication, buscopone, i took the first one yesterday, i felt quite calm and much more able to manage the attacks. Today i have had the 1st of 2 tablets (im building up to 3 x 5mg a day) and it doesnt seem to have had the same effect, or anything near. Has anyone had these tablets and can let me know how they got on with them, or not !! Xxx burs xxx

I think all tablets should be labelled 'Believe in what you take'. Do that and you are half way there before you even swallow 'em. 😉

Hi don-1931. I know, your spot on. I was hoping it would be the "magic" cure and then the panic's would just vanish in to the ether. I just have to not let it get me down ( easier said than done i fear). I am going to believe they work. Loved the poem today, don't run off for long though, your a ray of sunshine xxx love burs xxx

I was hiding under the table all the time. They didn’t look there. 😉

I used to take something called Buspirone along with Fluoxetine for my panic disorder. Could that be the same thing? It’s a very mild drug and I never found it did much for me but it is supposed to be very effective for many. There are lots of different drugs to try though so if it’s not doing the job after a few weeks, go back to the GP and get something else. Also, bear in mind that most of the anti-panic drugs take a few weeks to build up and start working. Good luck! X

Hi Burs,

Anxiety and panic can be crippling I know .

I googled your medication but couldn't find it, i was given Xanax years ago but I just spent my time vomiting when I took them, so they were no use at all.

I tend to get in a cycle of breathlessness, panic, more breathlessness....I find pursed lip breathing helps, slowing down and getting control of my breathing.....no big open mouth breaths.

Just gentle, belly breathing with relaxed upper chest and shoulders. Try putting one hand on your upper chest and the other on your belly.....the lower hand should move.

Hyperventilating can make panic worse, so gentle low and slow breaths.

Alternate nostril breathing from my yoga practice is good too and calming...you tube is useful there .

Meditation, relaxation , distraction with puzzle or colouring books, free e jigsaws...I try anything.

Doesn't always work, especially for doctor or hospital visits....I wish I could not panic then .

I have tried Rescue Remedy...expensive but maybe it helps a bit.

Good luck with the new medication. Could you ask your pharmacist for advice if you feel no different...it may take time to work.

Hello knitter. I spelt the medicine wrong, its buspirone, sorry for the wild goose chase trying to find it. I think i was hoping it would cure the attacks straight away and of course that would be too easy. Xxx love and many thanks burs xxx

Hi knitter, did you hear the woman, Michelle somebody, interviewed on Woman's hour BBC radio 4 thus morning talking about Xanax? 😳

Burs, read the leaflet well, these drugs often take a week or two to kick in. Good luck. P
