Good morning all, having bronchiectasis, from time to time I have to have large amounts of Prednisolone together with antibiotics to get things back to normal my question is:- is there an alternative tablet to Prednisolone?
Kind regards

Sadly, none that I know of Joseph. I am a fellow bronch and appreciate the dread that comes with the advice to take steroids. But they do the job and the side effects have to be endured.
Hi Joseph, The use of oral steroids in the treatment of bronchiectasis is contraversial. Some people on this site with bronch have them but most don't. I have had bronch for 63 years and I have never had an oral steroid. It is more a treatment to ease COPD symptoms. Many GPs do not know much about bronch and confuse its treatment with that for COPD. Has this been prescribed by a consultant who specialises in bronch? If not, I suggest that you insist that your GP refer you to one of these consultants who can make the decision whether to continue treating you with prednisolone or with the more usual treatment of bronchodilators and antibiotics : either given orally, by IV, by nebuliser, occasionally or on a long term basis. Good luck I hope that you get your treatment sorted out.
Hi Joe,
I agree fully with the above post. I have had bronchiectasis since 1977 and have never been offered oral steroids, they are not something generally prescribed for us, and I suggest you ask for a referral to see a specialist.
Kind thoughts.
There is an alternative steroid to prednislone. My consultant prefers it as its a natural steroid, and is changing me over to it now, its called hydrocortisone, I too have broncicatsis. It is still a steroid though.
