Prednisolone tablets

Hi there, I am due to see a specialist in Manchester about going on the UK lung transplant list. Over the last 13 years of having severe Bronchiectasis I have had countless numbers of chest infections of which I have combated with oral and nebulised antibiotics together with prednisolone, the trouble is every time lately I have tapered off the prednisolone I have started to feel like I have no energy and tired all the time. My oxygen at home would always pick me up but that doesn't seem to work as well either at the moment.

Regards

Joseph

Sorry to hear this. I hope you will talk to your medics about the fatigue - several reasons, could simply be a vitamin deficiency of some kind. P

Hi,

Sometimes the steroids can actually make me feel worse, when I come off of them, sometimes my lungs go back to exactly how they were before I went on them and again have to stay on them for quite awhile, was on them for 2 years but am now off of them, but always the antibiotics.

I think the whole lung trouble takes so much out of us all and, I find that now I have to rest alot more than I used to, but on the other hand, whilst we are sleeping our cells are repairing and our bodies are telling us when we need to sleep, so if you can try and rest as much as you can to get your strength back up.

Hope I have been of some help.

Ask for a test, to see if your Adrenal glands still work, a side effects of steroids is adrenal gland insufficiency. It happened to me, treatment is to live off steroids permanently.

I have been on prednisone for years. As high as 40mg per day and as low as 10mg per day. That's the downside of tapering down the dosage. I'm, right now, taking 10mg per day. And I can feel the difference, but I sleep better at night (I was needing 12mg of melatonin each night, now I take only 5mg).

Also, since prednisone is an anti-inflammatory steriod, I notice my arthritis bothers me more with the lower dosage.

Hi Joseph, How many Prednisolone are you on daily I don't know if it's the same procedures with all Lung Transplants but the max is 20mg daily but because I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis I have been allowed to stay on the list at 25mg any higher and I come off it. Mattcass

Hi there, I am not on them every day it's only when I have infections or feel exacerbated I am then usually put on 30 mlg a day then taper down to zero. As stated when I have tapered down to zero after a couple of weeks I feel like I have no energy at all?
