I've had 2 bleeds on clexane, one pre-abscess op and the other was post abscess op. Both ended in bed sheets soaked in blood and only stopped bleeding with pressure being applied.
I'm pleased to say I'm back on good old warfarin as my INR is back within range but I'm still having to put up with daily visits to the nurses for abscess cavity packing, oucha!!!! all dignity has long gone with at least 10 different nurses having had the pleasure of doing the job but they tell me its healing well so hopefully only a few more weeks to go eh'
I picture the district nurses drawing straws every morning to see who has to deal with my bum, they really earn every penny and have been brilliant.

The nurses have been amazing and have made me feel at ease in what is a pretty embarrassing situation. Of course their used to it and I'm getting there slowly, I think my 2 1/2 month stay in ITU a few years back has helped me know the routine so I just let them get on and do whats necessary.
Hello Tony so the abscess is no more thank goodness for that and you didnt need to have a full anesthetic brilliant! Yes I bet it is oucher do you have a very large crater now,yes sadly ones modesty goes out the window women find that out as soon as certain tests have to be done then theres the baby thing when everyone in the world is gawping saying they can see the babies head etc,and of course you know yourself with your itu experience there aint nothing private anymore! What is clexane Tony doesnt sound too good? glad your off it now though, sounds like your healing well this is a good sign eh.Yes nurses do earn every penny without them doctors would be useless so to speak.Well Tony onwards and upwards to the transplant list for you me thinks now.You looked bootiful in your red wig lol.Takecare and keep yourself well. Janexx
Thanks peeg, I should be back on the transplant list soon with a bit of luck and then who knows one day I might just have one heck of a story to post eh'.
Its great to see Jane is improving and hopefully she'll be out and about on Gertie soon, reporting back with her own very special sense of humor.
Yep, the bum is an abscess free zone now, but its still gonna take around 2 months to heal according to the nurses who have experience of these things. I'm 2 weeks in now and there are signs of improvement so only 6 weeks to go eh'
I was taken off warfarin for the spinal block anesthetic because it could cause a bleed in the spine and then put on clexane which works in a different way. Warfarin alters the time your blood takes to clot and clexane I believe thins the blood. Anyway I leave it to the experts and the op went well so they were right. The strange thing is I seem to bleed a lot worse on clexane and my blood pressure was the lowest I have ever seen it?. It beat having a general anesthetic though and risking further damage to my lungs.
I'm glad I gave that red wig back to the my neighbor because women found me irresistible in it and it wasn't fair on you all to have to share me. Ha Ha.
Keep getting well Jane, then take Gertie for a spin and terrorise the neighborhood, you know you want to.
Tony xxxx
Goodness, you are going through the mill, glad things a bit better now!
Glad you have lovely nurses,I'm sure you keep them well entertained,as they look after your btm!
Keep smiling young Tony, getting closer to getting back on the list! xxxx
The worst part of this abscess recovery is wearing tracksuit bottoms everywhere to allow room for the packing etc and hide any leaks, gross ain't it. Its getting better slowly and I do have a laugh with the nurses while their tidying things up DOWN THERE!! if you know what I mean.
I just put it down to another experience in life that not everyone will be lucky enough to go through.
Your right hp, this daily packing won't last forever, its a situation where a good sense of humor is helpful and you just look forward to the day you can get back to normal life.
You always do seem to try to turn every situation you face into a challenge to be beaten, that's what I always admire about you...and now I have seen your lovely head of RED hair ( might need to borrow that hair for my FA cup final trip ) Well I am an even greater admirer.. hope your 'holes' all heal up soon
Hi Sohara, I think the cup is as good as yours as long as your team is fully up for it on the day, Watch out though there are no guarantees as last year proved. You'll have to post a photo of yourself in your Red Gooners outfit on the day.
Your right about my approach to life and that I will try and turn a bad situation into a challenge that has to be beaten, its my way of dealing with things and it has worked for me so far.
Thanks for your nice comments, Hopefully now I'm off clexane and back on warfarin there should be no more bleeds.
Dall, A sore bum is terrible. Mine's getting that way, but I have avoided the bleeding yet. I will see a district nurse who has measured me and taken my weight, and is going to bring me a coccyx cushion tailor made. This is really wonderful. I'll be able to sit in bed without any more sore.
Hi hm, sore bums are not much fun are they and the rigmarole with the daily packing is something I could do without to. Still it has to be done and hopefully I'll be pain free in a few more weeks not to mention being back on the transplant list too.
I think it was the clexane anticoagulant that caused the bleed to be as bad as it was, I clot quicker on warfarin so I'm glad to be back on it now.
I hope your special cushion makes life more comfortable for you hm.
Got the cushion, but the District nurse if I wanted a soother in bed, I should have a special mattress! If we carry on, I'll need a special house too with padded rooms!
Hope you get your heart's desire and a new transplant. M.
Hi ona m, The abscess has been removed now but the healing can take some time, The nurse said it could be a couple of months of dressing before the cavity fills. Oh well its not as though I've got a lot on is it.
