Could anyone please advise me.
I went to get my flu jab today, and was told that because I have to go onto a.biotics for an infected cyst,I can't have the jab.
Is this normal practice? I can understand if I have a chest infection, but I haven't.
Could anyone please advise me.

Hi Fantasy, I think its to do with having antibiotics in your system. Others here may be more informed.
Hi Fantasy3 anything to do with infection is a no no my doc wont let us until we've been infection free for 3weeks !I had to go without one year could never get to 3weeks! I dont know what would happen,Hopefully someone will pass through and be able to help.Maybe give the BLF a ring im sure they would know. Janexx
I think the reason is because you are already fighting an infection and so when the system is compromised its unadvisable to have the flu jab.
Oh ok,thanks everyone.
I appreciate all your replies,at least I now know why she refused to do it.
Take care all.

Must have had their reasons but not sure what they are. You are fighting a bacterial infection and not a virus. For as long as I remember when the nurses hear me cough they question me, but it's always as good as I'm gonna get. Once at docs with an infection and on antibiotics and I asked him and he said 'the sooner the better for you' and did it there and then - so it's a mystery........

Thanks cofdrop.x
I don't know if this makes sense but my theory is. When you have a flu jab they give you a modified version of that particular bug. If you are on antibiotics it will immediately kill the vaccine and there would be no point to having it in the first place. Maybe when the antibiotics are out of your system you could ask again if you could have it.
I had my flu jab even tho I nebulise antibiotics and take extra. They did take my temperature but said it was better I had it. I think it depends on their judgement sometimes as to what is best for you.

When i tryed to make my appointment for the flu jab i was told i had to wait for the antibiotic to clear before i could have it so they give me it three weeks latter
I recently was faced with this problem as my flu jab was scheduled whilst I was on Flucloxycillin for a leg infection. I was asked if I had any cold/flu symptoms and when I said no, I was given the flu jab as in their opinion there was no conflict. Seems not all docs are singing from the same hymn sheet.
Thank you everybody.
I do think each doc has a different idea on the best thing for us.
I'm just gonna take the tabs, and may not even bother getting the flu jab.
Does anyone else suffer with stomach pains afterwards???
For the past 2 years after I've had the jab,by bedtime that evening I am in absolute agony.ive mentioned this many times to gp,and nurse, and they all say it won't be the flu jab.just seems like a coincidence that it's happened twice. Any advice please?
