4th booster jab

Morrison10 profile image
37 Replies

I hear that all over age 75 are entitled to 4th jab. I had my 3rd jab last September as I’m classed as extremely vulnerable. However when I asked my GP surgery when I could have 4th jab as it’s now 6months since last jab, I was told that I have to get a letter from my consultant requesting it. Has anyone had this response. I was born with PCD, including bronchiectasis most of my life, and will be 87 in July, so surely I qualify! Thanks, Jean

You are 6 months past your 3rd, you clearly need a 4th now. Are you under a consultant you can ask?

Yes, but didn’t want to trouble her, she’s been very good this year with telephone consultations. Seems to me that it’s just making unnecessary work, as I’ve been with same Gp surgery since 1958 when moved to where I live. Jean x

Its not troubling her as it is for your safety. I had mone done by 2 different consultants without asking. I had my 4th in December

Oh that is frustrating. All over 75's are to be offered the 4th jab irrespective of medical conditions. A letter from a consultant is not necessary. I suspect the latest info has not filtered through to GP surgery just yet and they are thinking about the 4th jab to immunosuppressed as opposed to a 4th booster jab. The article I read was towards the end of Feb and it said within a few weeks so perhaps it may be a couple of weeks or so before they will be ready.

Thanks for confirming what I thought. My GP surgery is part of a big Group, and since that was set up, care has been mixed. I will message them again, thanks for your help. Jean x

Thanks, have you ever had jab at home, I’m not well at moment because of two nasties partying in lungs, hope latest antibiotics have cleared them, but will take time to get strength back. Hopefully car will start ok when finally can go out

Trying to get any inoculations these days via home visits are extremely rare. When first jabs became available many many people had to wait for months to receive it at home. If indeed they ever did! My 95yr neighbour in the end was taken via wheelchair by her daughter to nearest chemist because despite numerous phone calls nothing transpired for her to have inoculations at home.

My daughter on my behalf has been trying to get me the fourth dose since early February, we have been going round in circles . First GP said we are not doing them contact your Consultant , Consultant said we do not know anything about them. Second attempt to Consultant please look at NHS site and agree to give me letter to give to GP. Third attempt with Consultant we now know about them we are not issuing letters as we have two many patients in respiratory to do that please go back to Gp. Last attempt at GP yes we can give you an appointment tomorrow at our special clinic two miles away, please get hospital to send us an E Mail confirming that you are eligible. We know you are Eligible but hospital has to authorise as well. You can go to a local walk in centre take all your correspondence regarding your respiratory treatment to date and they MAY let you have one. I now have an acerbation of Asthma so may not be able to attend. I give up.

So sorry for you, and daughter, all that messing about and you are not now well enough to have 4th booster. Hope you soon improve and can get jab.

Omg nhs gone mad with red tape. Perhaps if the gp's got their axxxs back to work they would know what they are doing. It makes me so mad that we (the patients) have to do this type of chasing for the rules they implement grrrr x

Hello clematis if it would help give 119 a call tomorrow and say you waiting for a letter for your 4th one I was told we had to wait 3 months before having the 4th jab after the 3rd one

Hello Jean. I think this is important and you are not bothering your GP at all by asking about this. Please do. You are entitled to this jab and you are very vulnerable. xx 🙋

At least some of you have a consultant, after being diagnosed with bronchiectasis in 2019 the best I got was a couple of phone calls from a physio, this was after asking to be refered for 2 years .the physio decided to tell the mdt meeting I was not in need of anything . I also have heart disease I have not seen my consultant in 2 years only a phone call over a year ago in spite of my gp asking him to see me and a further letter expediting an appointment .STILL NO APPOINTMENT . I give up, he also asked for an ecg monitor for a week , I went to the hospital and asked at place they do this she showed me a vast pile of requests told me it will take many months as they only have 4 machines .the NHS has not looked after the long term sick we have been forgotten in the pandemic.

Good morning Jean,

My Dad hadn’t received a letter, but like you had his 3rd Jab in October 21 (making it 6 months), so following advice from this amazing forum, I just called the Consultant’s nurse team and the nurse checked and said absolutely your Dad is eligible and popped a letter in the post 🙏🏻

Hope this helps ✨

Many thanks, will contact contact consultant secretary tomorrow. Jean x

JCVI said booster will be 'in the spring'.... and everyone over 75 will qualify for one. You have to wait to be called by the NHS so I guess we will get a text or email. GPs aren't doing them anymore so it will presumably be done at an immunisation centre. This is different from the 4th shot offered to immunocompromised people towards the end of last year.

Hope you get this sorted Morrison, you shouldnt have to be chasing this up. I was discharged from the hospital with the consultant saying there was nothing more he could do for me, so i wouldnt be able to chase them up. Redtape madness us what this is x

Morrison10 in reply toIzb1

Sorry your consultant said no more he could do. I’ve lived for nearly 87 years with PCD, was lucky to find Consultant interested in condition, by looking on line at all respiratory consultants in area. Have to pay!! to look, but well worth it for me. Hope this helps, good luck, Jean x

I think alot of people in the UK are fobbed off with this excuse and just think they want you off their books. Good that you have found a consultant that you trust but sorry you have to pay for this x

Hi if you are classed as CEV then you are entitled to a 4th vaccination. You should have in theory a letter from your consultant regarding this however it may be worth ringing the vaccination centre where you had your 3rd vaccination as they should have your details on their system. I did receive a letter but had to book the 4th vaccination myself through the vaccination centre. This vaccination is a different one to the one they are talking about offering to all over age 70 I think later this year. My GP had nothing to do with the vaccination program & I wasted time trying in vain to sort it with them yours may be the same. Good luck.

Thank you to everyone in this post , it helps to show what a fiasco the 4th jab is . Thank you Morrison10 for highlighting your problem its not what people who are retired want to have to go through is it.? I would suggest those who are entitled and had no letter to ring 119 for advice. Hope you get yours soon as we are told effectiveness wains after four months, so boosters are needed.

I received the fourth vaccination 8 weeks after my third received a letter from my surgery to show at a walk in clinic no letter from consultant required it is not a case of bothering the surgery if and like me extremely vulnerable the surgery should send you a letter I also received a follow up letter from the NHS. You should not need to book a phone appointment the letter is enough. Take care

Good morning morrison I also have bronchiectasis and had 3 jabs done when I spoke to my doctors about the 4th one was told to phone 119 and they will book you somewhere near where you live. I hope this helps

Thanks. My concern at moment is that I’ve been on strong antibiotics continuesly for many months, as have two nasties partying in lungs, and haven’t been out, don’t feel well enough, not sure car will start! My two daughters are disabled and don’t live locally. Only person coming into house has been my private physio, who always wears approved mask. NHS spec for my condition PCD says I should get physio, but have never had it, decided two years ago that was really necessary, and has been big help. My surgery require me to have another blood test, have previously sent nurse last November to do one, hoping they will also do 4th Jab. I need wash machine repair etc, haven’t risked it until feel better and have had 4th Jab. Sorry such gloomy story, hope will soon be better, and can send good news. Best wishes to everyone, Jean x

I filled in an Econsult form and asked about a booster. My GP wrote to me to tell me how to book one. I’m 65 with asthma and bronchiectasis. I hope your GP helps soon. If not, could you contact your consultant’s secretary? Good luck!
