4th Booster Jab REFUSED for me

I’ve spoken to consultants secretary, who kindly spoke to my consultant about letter for my GP so I can have 4th Jab, told I don’t qualify as I’m not immunosupressed. Whilst I’m apparently not I’ll enough this refusal is . Very distressing. Haven’t been out for months as too unwell, need work doing in house that deferred until feel better and newly jabbed. Have bronchiectasis, one partly collapsed lung resting on other, and two nasties, pseudomonas and Maltophilia partying in lungs all winter. NHS statement disappointingly inaccurate.

But you’re over 75 so it’s irrelevant whether you’re immunosuppressed! What’s the matter with these people?!

Yes that’s right, but GP surgery won’t organise jab without consultants letter! Will message them again but don’t want to get too outspoken! Since NHS forced them all into group practices, service has severely declined. Know couple at my surgery whose children are doctors elsewhere, they don’t seem to have problem getting attention and treatment!

I don't think the roll out of 4th jabs for the over 75s has begun yet....it said 'spring'. So as soon as it starts you should be one of the first to be contacted as your third jab was in ?September.I don't think GPs are doing the vaccinations any more which could be one reason why they are not getting involved. It will be done at a vaccination centre.

I got mine without consultant’s letter. I’m 46 & in Scotland. I was just asked at my 3rd jab if I was immune suppressed. I said not sure & told them I had Chronic Resp Failure type 2, so they put me down as a yes

Oh Morrison, I really do know how you feel. My consultant and her pals at the QE in Bham have also decided that I won't get the 4th jab because although my lungs are destroyed, I am not immunosuppressed. This is despite telling me for 2 years and in the last letter in Dec that I must avoid becoming infected! Apart from staying in isolation how can we do that when people can now go out when they are infected. I believe that the criteria are wrong but that our consultants have had pressure put on them not to challenge or go against it. I am truly fed up.

I see that you are over 75. You should automatically be called when they begin the roll out of the post raising of restrictions vaccs

Hi, I’m patient at QE Birmingham, have been for over 50 years, but not seeing good Consultant who understood my condition PCD until paid 3 years ago to look on line at their qualifications and interests, found Dr.Sullivan, whose been helpful, but today said couldn’t do letter. Now have telephone appointment with my Gp Friday morning to sort out why they want letter. Hope we all get our jabs very soon. Good luck x

in reply to Morrison10

She is my consultant. I am wondering whether they are confused between the 4th vacc which is for the immuno suppressed and the second booster which is to be rolled out now that restrictions are lifted. You will qualify for that because you are over 75.

Sorry you don’t appear to qualify for 4th Booster, hope Dr Sullivan etc realises how concerned you are,, and NHS change their spec. Good luck. Jean xxx

Thank you. I hope that you eventually get yours. Xx

It's soul destroying trying to get the treatments we need. I'm sorry they're giving you the runaround. Hope you get a positive response soon.

I just looked it up, as husband is over 75 too. The vaccines for that age group are to be made available “in Spring”, so I presume you’ll both be able to book one via the nhs app in a few weeks’ time

Hanne62 in my city some over 75s have already had the 4th vaccine based on age criteria its a complete shambles once again in some areas. But I am sure it will be sorted out soon as officially spring is only a few weeks away.

Have you tried taking to the help line at 119 . A lot of pushing buttons eventually gets you through to human voice . (Officially according to meteorlogical web site it is spring but not officially for another two or three weeks) .

I would expect that when the fourth vaccine is rolled out for the over 75's that the NHS will contact you. Hope I'm right.

Have telephone consultation with GP Friday, first time I’ve spoken to her in over year! Hopefully will find our when can have 4th booster, will let everyone know what’s happening ASAP, this confusion can’t continue. xxx

It is very alarming I am in the same boat. You have your age that will get you to the vaccine quicker. I’m Currently recovering from a nasty chest infection oxy stats were alarmingly dropping to 64 at rest so had to go on oxygen 24/7 last few days. I’ve now been given a short course of steroids plus a change in antibiotics and have picked up. If a simple chest infection does this. I certainly don’t want covid. Life on hold until the 4th comes around … maybe before the summer months for us younger lungies praying it’s always in time. Hope you hear very soon x2

To be honest the system is flawed my wife is immuno suppressed and as not been offered the jab but I who is not immunosuppressed have been offered one! As of yet no explanation. I am part of the ONS study and my last blood test showed high levels of immunity.

Yes system flawed, hope you both get jab same time, makes it easier for you. Will post when get my jab. Good luck, Jean x

What about the patients who are constantly on and off high dose steroids. It is well known that steroids lower your natural immunity. They are much more susceptible to infections. I think anyone with a chronic lung condition should automatically qualify as this is a respiratory disease. I also believe the people who have received the PCR pack should be on that 4th jab list. Maybe they already are, I don’t know, but I do know that there will be many people here who tick all of the above

Totally. During Covid I was not permitted steroid injections in my back due to Covid risks going up. 18 months without them..just as well we were housebound would not have got very far otherwise

I got bronciactsis as well,l ra and other things, I did not Nedd any letter from consultant or doctor. Just went along to a walk in vaccination centre, they asked for my name and nhs number. Bobs your uncle they gave me my 4 jab. Good luck.

Hi Morrison10. I really feel for you. I have had a terrible winter too. I asked GP about 4th jab and he said I was in the queue and would get to me sometime in summer. I retired in April 2021 and it has been a lonely time. I had a very responsible and busy job and now Im left in a vacuum. I was admitted twice to hospital in first 9 months of retirement. Just feeling at a low. However, I often think I am self indulgent when I see all the human suffering in Ukraine.

Hi, yes being alone not easy at times, I miss husband killed by prostate cancer, delayed treatment until too late because PSA blood test reading always low. I had two jobs, by accident, didn’t retire until 67. Sorry you’ve been in hospital twice, hope health now improved. Best wishes,

That’s sad Morrison10. How are you adjusting now? I mean you will never stop missing him but are you now socialising a little? ❤️

Morning. My only contacts because of Covid are my respiratory physio, who I pay to come twice weekly, and occasionally my younger daughter, who doesn’t live locally, but now her broken ankle is improving hopes to be able to come more often. Because I’ve been so unwell last 12 months haven’t socialised at all, hope now I’m better and had Moderna 4th Spring Booster few days ago, hope can go out a little. Good luck to everyone, best wishes, xx

Hello Morrison10, have to agree with Hanna62, whats wrong with these people don't they understand English. You are over 75 by quite some years so are entitled to the 4th jab irrespective of health status. I would ring 119 and ask their advice they may have more knowledge of whats happening in your individual area. Talk about red tape !!!! Good Luck
