interesting. I take omega3 fish oil which I have done for years + Boots probiotic multivits + echinanacea periodically. I do have to stop them if they shouldn't be taken with some antibs. xx

yes it's very good. I get Wellbeeing 20+ online. I noticed in M&S the other day that they have 500grms of 10+ for £10.99 .I've been using it fo a few months on & off (never in anything hot) & been infection free in that time. Coincidence? I dont know
Hello Peeg, I take vitamin c, vitamin a, vitamin d3, vitamin e and use chlorella powder in a smoothie as a multi-vitamin. I also take vitamin k2, omega 3, coq10 and selenium. I use a magnesium spray at night.
At the moment I'm reading about herbs and spices and their anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-biotic properties. They're also supposed to contain lots of nutrients despite the small amount that you use.
The author, Stephen Harrod Buhner, mentions that in times gone by, people would mix them in salads and use them in cooking and this helped them build their immune systems.
It's all very complicated so at the moment I'm just adding whatever fresh herbs I can get hold of (or dried herbs if I can't) to everything I cook in a willy-nilly fashion and hoping they do their magic! xxx
there has been some research published recently about the benefits of Vitamin D. this is supposed to help with asthma and breathing . Vitamin c and zinc are also good for there healing properties and help to keep the mucus membrains healthy in the body so should be good for the respiratory tract. If you smoke vitamin c is Destroyed.
Nutrition and health are still quite new sciences and we do not understand completely why the body does what it does and how all the chemicals found both naturally in our food keep us healthy. Keep positive and keep reading who knows one day there could be a miracle cure for lung problems if they can grow a nose on someones forhead which I saw on the BBC the other day then why not new lungs eventually.
Hi hopetorun I es told I had no vitamin D at all and put on 20,000 units a day (seems a lot but only small capsule) was told other day u must remain on this and get regular 6 monthly blood tests to check levels, as this is a hormone (vitamin d) and without it you can develop organ failure! Read up on line about it !! Think we should all be aware of this one, I thought you just needed sun shine! My two year old grandson didn't have any either and needed medication
Dear Boo- Boo I found some information today on the web if you type in Vitamin D into goggle it will come up with lots of choices but there is one from the NHS which explains about different vitamins and Minerals. It will tell you the normal amount someone needs where it is found and how it is used in the body very basic stuff but interesting all the same. One good thing about needing more vitamin D is that you have an Excuse to sit in the Sun for half an hour with your arms and legs uncovered sounds good to me! hope you find the info useful.
I think anyone thinking of taking regular vitamin D / D3 should ask your GP for a blood test and then receive the correct amounts they need as you can overdose on this, it can be harmful good luck! Get it checked first I say
Thanks Booboo, respiratory nurse was quite insistent that I take it year round, that we don't get enough from sunlight, that it's one of the best & cheapest things things we can do for ourselves and also there's lots of research going on and new discoveries on the benefits of Vit D all the time.
We are all different though so I agree, when in doubt seek medical advice. Xx P
I insist my husband takes his supplements! I have just been reading about cordyceps which is used in Chinese medicine for lung health and used in Tibet for altitude sickness. Have ordered so we will see!
My husband takes omega 3 6 and 9, ginkgo bilboa. Coq10 and a vitamin b. Will be starting bit d soon but we did get a lot of sunshine this summer! He did use NAC for a while but it upset his stomach. Good luck TAD x x ps and vit c! X

On the subject of Vitamins, my son is a Doctor of Environmental Toxicology and is aways telling me that I am poisoning myself when he sees the vitamins I take. When he was a student he used to grow lots of plants for research. When he gave the plants Zinc they all died! So what does that tell us?
Hi Tad, it's interesting isn't it the things others take. Are cordyceps mushrooms? I now will take Vit D3 all year round.The teaching resp nurse at PR said they've made so many good discoveries about it recently, particularly for lung health that it was vital to take it year long.So I do! xx

I was diagnosed in April with lack of Vit D. My doc said I should walk in the sun (which we hadn't had!) I took some Vit D. I'm not sure about the absoprtion. I have a friend in Brussels whose 80 yr old mum was prescribed Vit D in ampoules, but only once a week, because it's very strong. I still think I should take more of this Vit D. But I've lapsed I'm afraid.
Hi, I thought it was just me that rattled with pills.
I take a multivitamin and mineral, vit c, vit b complex(if I stop this I get cracks in the corner of my mouth), cod liver oil, and turmeric...and Manuka honey just recently...and epsom salts in the bath.
I know some people say that you shouldn't need supplements if you eat a varied diet...but I still take the pills anyway.

I read good things about turmeric but you have to draw the line somewhere dont you.
They've always said that a balanced diet is enough but I recall in the 80's they also said the soil was depleted of nutrients so I err on the safer than sorry side. xx
My understanding is that even with a wholly organic diet, and a stress-free life in an unpolluted environment, we would, overall, have adequate rather than optimal nutrition.

Hi peeg i feel positively undernourished reading what you are all taking.All i have is is a fairly well balanced diet love my fruit and always have an orange regardless oh and my aunt has her own bees so have her honey.Sould i be taking more? I was fortunate only to have one bout of the nasties all year,managed to ward the snuffles off several times..Janexx
longlungs, I am coming round to the same conclusion as you. OK, if you find a supplement that helps you, fair enough. As for me, I tried Omega 3,6, 9. I tried Acidophilus with some success for my guts. But what really changed my guts and all was buying more fruit during the summer, preparing my own food (I bought a ceramic coated pan which doesn't smoke! and has a lid). I like to cut my onion and fry it with some meat.
And Here September came with a cold spell, and I caught pneumonia. I lost my appetite and the energy to cook for myself (Not very good). so what you say lonlungs should be possible. How to avoid illness, I'm not sure! Cheers!
Hello helingmic its difficult to say isnt it i do believe in a healthy diet ,ifind it interesting that the more fussy we become the more allergies there are .All things in moderation. Yes the flavour of the dish you make by frying the onions with the meat is a must in my book.,When you think its not complicated but i do think we get scared and thats down to the media someones making a lot of money health supplements/shops is very big business,I can get a little cynical. .At.the end of the day if by taking whatever, feels good for you that is great. What i do believe in is positivity the brain in my opinion is the most powerful of organs for our success in all things.There will always be variables,and life throws those curve balls.its how we deal with all that thats important.Haha what am i like ,apologies helingmic for rambling .I do hope you are slowly building yourself back up.Stay safe and well im sending you a hug keep warm. Oh flibberti,,i,m so glad you put that,,i don,t take anything either,,my doc laughed when i asked him about taking vit,s,,his answer was no point cos what vitamins there are in small pills ain,t worth talking about,,although i have to take folic acid at the moment cos i,m not absorbing it,,,i eat plenty of fruit and veg,,so thats enough for me,,,,

I have a bit of arthritis in my hands, sometimes it's unbearable but I dread to think what it must be like to have it in your feet, knees or hips and have to take loads of medication for it. Some suffer so much.
Multi Vitamins and multi minerals, should always take both, they compliment each other. Zinc is always a good. It's best to pop into your local health shop H&B are good, tell them what medication you are on, they offer good advise.
So many of the leaflets that come with the drugs / medicines we use carry a warning about using non prescription medicines that I feel frightened to try them, a GP once warned me that as most of the drugs that he prescribed were made from the same plant extracts and the doses were carefully calculated, so adding complimentary medicine might not be complimentary and might even be harmful. USER BEWARE.
I take a baby aspirin, Qunol (Co-Q10), multivitamin, resveratrol, and a cup or two of green tea with honey. I've had no illness/exacerbations in four years (knock on wood). I also walk about 3 miles/day and garden.

USA, State of Indiana. It's warm, up to the 90's, in the summer and down to 0 in the winter. But, I have a fitness center close by to use in inclement weather!
Assuming you're not suffering from pernicious anemia, anything from 25-100 mcg/day should be plenty. If you suffer from fatigue or depression then try 1000mcg/day, or even more if you like. You can't overdose on B12, though very high doses might cause acne they say.
