I have had frequent chest infections but haven't had a pain of this sort. I think it a good idea if you saw your GP. Or ring the BLF nurse - click on the red balloon at the top of the page, on the right hand side. You will see the tel.no.
I seen my gp this evening but he said it was the chest infection/asthma that was causing the pain but never had it any other time I have had an infection
Yes a get pains with infection or mucus on the move or as a reminder i need to take inhaler
Thay say if its in center of breast bone and pain level is same when breathing in and out i.e is just the same you need to go A + E
But i think your doc is right will be infection pain
Hope thst helps ... Cheers all the best
Hi Julie, I hope you're feeling a bit better by now.
I too have asthma but have never had pain during an infection except when I've had pleurisy as well which is so very painful. It's like a stabbing every time you move or breath. The doctor can tell if it's pleurisy via stethoscope because it makes a sort of rasping sound instead of the usual crackles & creaks.
I would see another gp Julie
Peeg......it feels like seone is squeezing my chest everytime I breath in to hard, seems to have eased a bit but still sore, hopefully when I start the steroids torrid it will ease, thanks for your advice
Hi Julie I get the awful pain when I have a chest infection as well, it can be unbearable to breathe, and lying down makes it worse for me. I tend to take painkillers until the antibiotics and steroids kick in which helps to ease it a bit. It's virtually impossible to cough as well when it is so bad, but it's all due to the extra build up of mucus I think. I hope you feel better soon
Ann x
Morning Julie, Hope the meds have started to work and the pain is subsiding. My husband doesn't usually complain of any pain in his chest when he has infections - just almost impossible to breath and can hardly cough! It is very miserable. I hope that you are feeling better this morning - if not I would suggest you go back to the Doctors or ask for a home visit. Take care, with love TAD xx
Hi, I hope the steroids start to kick in soon and the antibiotics. I have had chest pain in the past with an infection, but it was a very bad one ..not the usual cough with mucus...and I was prescribed pain killers.
If it still is bad I would ring your gp again, and contact the BLF helpline ...they are open today
Best wishes J
If you worried go back to docs to rule out pleurisy. Hope you feel better soon. X
