I have COPD, 3 weeks antibiotics and steroids and still awful pain in right side of chest like a punch especially when cough, what next
8th day of this cold & ive coughed so hard I feel I tore flesh off my right ribs. I feel for you!
A lot of the pain caused can be the result of unproductive coughing, coughing but not bringing anything up. Do a search on 'Active Cycle of Breathing Technique', and see if that advice helps. healthunlocked.com/blf/post...
Thanks Don i will do that now
Oh my goodness, i just did it with a video on you tube, the pain now is massive but I coughed very productively, I can't believe no one has ever told me about this in the 4 years since diagnosis, thank you Don
There's so much good advice sitting there waiting for people to make use of it. 😉
True, there is a wealth of advice out there, or in fact in here it seems to me. But if we're not told about something, like active cycle of breathing, we don't know it exists in the first place to know to look for it. I've had respiratory problems my whole life but learned more since joining this community than I'd been told my whole life. I've never been on a PR course, never been told about breathing techniques or exercises, no information had ever been forthcoming so it hadn't occured to me that there might be advice out there to seek. I don't know why health care providers don't give us this advice or at least say to us it's out there, go look it up. It's difficult to look for something we don't know exists. I am so grateful to have found this community because I've learned so much and now it does occur to me to seek advice. I think, I wonder if there's something about this out there, whatever question I may happen to have, and I search for the answers. And usually find them on this forum 👍
You see, it was natural for you to say to Meowgirl to look at that information, to provide that link, to say hey this thing exists and you can learn about it here. Why don't health care workers think of doing that kind of thing.
I knew that was there because it was started by something I wrote myself. I've only been a member for less than two years, there is stuff here going back over six years. I would encourage folk to go surfing, hoovering up information as they go. They might find something that will prevent a condition rather than wait until it strikes and then go looking for a specific thing. There's lots of humour scattered about to keep the interest flowing I find.
Hope you feel better very soon.
There are some wonderfully informative replies for you.
So good wishes.
Hi Meow
Sorry to hear you feel so ill...
COPD, Bronchiectasis, and lung growths for 3 years now. I too get chest soreness and stabbing pains fairly regularly.
As well as my inhalers, I take SERRAPEPTASE (natural enzyme)... from holland and barretts or online. Clears fibrous and dead materials in the lungs, clears out the air pockets and helps circulation. Research it online - would recommend it to anyone.
Also I do some regular qi-gong, plus breathing exercises and meditations, (meditations may sound a bit hippy dippy HAHA!, but it works honest).
Get your earphones on and have a go at this...

Hi, COPD can remain a painful disease but do check your GP has you on ther right antibiotics, GP's have a habit of using amoxicilyn (Check spelling), I have found that clarithromycin or doxycycline as my standby meds work for me and will help with a chest infection. You may have something that requires further investigation, speak to your GP ASAP, standard antibiotics may not be strong enough.

You don't have COPD! According to NICE there is no single diagnostic test for COPD! Its just an educated guess by your GP? You may have an underlying serious lung disease, so get referred to a Consultant, and have a CT scan done, lung function, blood, and sputum tests! I was diagnosed with COPD for over 3 years, but in fact I have Emphysema, and Pulmonary Fibrosis, and after I was referred to a Consultant my GP concealed her diagnosis from me, and I only found out by chance when I sneaked a look at the COPD nurses computer screen! Having exhausted all the complaints procedures, told my GP I no longer had any faith, or confidence in him, and wanted to be treated by another GP in the same practice, he expelled me! I refused to transfer to another practice which is what I was told to do, so no longer have a GP, or my prescription drugs. I have started to hold a one man protest in the GP's waiting Room, with a placard round my neck saying WATCH ME DIE! A GP IS KILLING ME!
