I also have COPD (emphysema) but have thankfully never had pleurisy. My father had it a couple of times and I know he was in agony. Have you tried the help desk? Although they will be closed now until Monday. Maybe someone else will be able to help. I hope you recover from it soon rick1. x
Hi Rick,
As Toci said your best bet is the BLF nurses. Clever girls those. They are there on Monday 10 - 5pm. The number is : 03000 030 555

Hi, I heartily sympathise having had it myself along with pneumonia.
If you scroll down a few posts or questions you will find the post (or question) by Lynne either yesterday of Thursday.
She asked a similar question so you may find the answers useful.
I have had pleurisy in the past with asthma/COPD and it was very painful. You need to cough because of the congestion but as you say the pain is like a knife when you do.
I had ABs, steroids and nebulisers and painkillers.
As Phillips 1 wrote the helpline on Monday is a good idea and then contact your gp if you are no better
Hi Rick, sorry you are not well, I'm sure you will start to feel better once the meds kick in, I had pleurisy once years ago and know how painful it can be but I can't remember what I did to ease it other than take lots of painkillers. I hope you feel a lot better today, huff x
Sorry to read your suffering at the moment. When I had it my gp told me to make myself comfortable using lots of pillows and to almost brace myself before I cough. Thankfully the anti b's and steroids will kick in quickly and then you will be a lot more comfortable.
Thank you all for your advice Richard.
