Which backs up what I've been saying for a while. They promoted tobacco smoking for years, and slowly increased the tax to the point where a sudden ban would lose any government millions. Then we were told about all the nasty stuff we had been inhaling, and what damage it had done - too late !

So these e-cigs come out, totally unregulated, made in the far east, nobody really knows what is in them because they've not been tested. So why do people think it's safe to inhale an unknown vapour ? Who says it is safer then tobacco ?

A typical government. Tax it or ban it. They take away all freedom of choice from the individual. I played badminton for twenty years 'cos they said fitness is good. Got a knackered knee now.

PS I think I am getting into one of my bah, humbug moods. I better go to bed. lol

If the government was serious about banning smoking, wouldn't the first logical step be to make the manufacturers stop putting the addictive chemicals into their products? I accept that nicotine is addictive but nicotine effects would be out of your system in two to three days. The rest of the withdrawl problems comes from the additional chemicals that they are allowed by law, to add to their products. These are the truly addictive compounds that keep people hooked.

I think the most telling thing about this ban is made in one of the comments on the Mail's page re who is making mega bucks out of the sale of nicotine patches and gum (which I notice also contains a lot of other chemicals) etc it is the big pharmaceutical companies whilst the e cigs are produced by other smaller companies - having said that I tried the e cigs and did well on them but as I did worry that they were not controlled as to ingredients and mostly made in china decided in the end against them however do not think they should banned from public places - a nonsense.

I read that France has banned them as they claim harmful chemicals in the vapour have been detected. Haven't heard that they may be banned in UK though.
