Trimbow 87/5/9

HiI have been taking trimbow 87/5/9 for several days. So far I haven't noticed any improvement. I don't know why the specialist prescribed a low dose for me since my asthma is severe, uncontrolled and I have always been prescribed strong inhalers. I wonder if my family doctor can change me to a higher dose, or only a specialist can do it? Thank you for all your replies.

Hi, I used to be on Trimbow 87/5/9 & I found it wasn’t very effective, prior to that I was on fostair 200. I’m now on Trimbow 172/5/9 which was prescribed by gp. Recently I’ve found I’ve had to take ventolin more often but I’m due a asthma review in the next 2 weeks

I'm afraid new inhalers won't work immediately, most take up to 8 weeks.Check the leaflet to see if it tell you how long before yours will 'kick in'.

Also check you're using it correctly - videos on manufacturer's website or YouTube.

Do you use a spacer with it? I ask because I took Seretide with a spacer wrongly for three years whilst getting technique checked at each bi-annual respiratory check up!

Thank you for your response. How often do you need ventolin? If I get tired quite quickly and have shortness of breath, my exhaled air is now 250 and my norm is 300, does this mean that my inhaler is too weak?

No I wouldn't think it means your inhaler is to weak do you use Trimbow every 12 hours I use mine 6.45 am then 6.45 pm as for the blue inhaler it depends on how breathless I use mine I do need to use it every day along with Trimbow but I've got Emphysema/asthma lung function 23percent that was last year not sure what it's gone down to now I use a spacer with both inhalers

I was changed from fostair to Trimbow in 2020 by a pharmacist at docs surgery who said it would be better for me. I am in my seventies and by September my legs were getting more painful and having problems actually getting up from chairs etc. It got so bad my husband was having to pull me up from chairs and I was feeling terrible. My complaints to doc at surgery over phone not getting anywhere . I was feeling about 20 years older and getting worse so in January 2021 I just stopped taking it and asked doc for prescription for Fostair but left me for days without any inhaler and my breathing was getting really bad but legs getting better. It ended up me phoning 111 after doc calling me at 10.30 on a friday night obviously the worse for alcohol and said she needed to google inhalers and told me she had sent prescription to chemist, but on a relative going to collect it next day she was told doc had sent it but cancelled it just after so no prescription there hence me phoning 111 in desperation . They actually just managed to get prescription at pharmacy just before closing time on the Saturday. also had my skin get very dry on Trimbow and just peel leaving clothes full of white bits of skin which has not stopped even now.

I'm so sorry. An hour ago I had a severe asthma attack and an ambulance came to my doorstep. As always, everything is fine because my blood oxygen level is 98. They made an appointment for me at the hospital tomorrow, and I'm already afraid of the night.

I am so sorry to hear that but don’t panic tonight and you will get through it ok. Although I do panic a lot myself which I know makes matters worse but if on your own it’s not good.
