Trimbow / Fostair

Can anyone confirm my understanding please?

I can't take fostair, it gave me awful palpitations, tremors and excess mucus to the point I felt like I was drowning when I lay down so it was quickly stopped.

I saw a respiratory consultant recently and as most other inhalers have already been tried he suggested switching my seretide and spiriva to trimbow. When talking about it he described it as the same "make" as Fostair, now to me something being the same make as something else would be like saying the mcvities hobnobs are the same make as the mcvities digestives (ie, they're not the same biscuit but they're made by the same people so may have similarities). However looking at the ingredients of fostair versus trimbow they look the same only trimbow has the LAMA in it too?

Is that right? He was hesitant to put me on it but because I didn't understand it was exactly the same drug I said I was happy to try it with the understanding that if I got the same symptoms I could switch back.

Fostair: beclometasone dipropionate, formoterol fumarate dihydrate

Trimbow: beclometasone dipropionate, formoterol fumarate dihydrate, glycopyrronium bromide

I have tried many of the asthma inhalers. Some are similar or the same medications but different company. Some I tolerate, some I don't. It can depend on the inactive ingredients, too. I don't know until I try. My pulmonologist has a list of fails for one reason or another... One gives me a lingering cough. One drops my peaks flows.etc.

I find Trimbow excellent after trying Trelegy and Fostair

I would say Trimbow is best (for me anyway) and has reduced bad episodes

I have COPD/Asthma

Good luck!

I had a similar experience with F vs T. I had an allergic reaction to Fostair (face sweelling), but Trimbow is just fine -- despite similar ingredients. There must be other "inert" components mentioned in the leaflet, or even the plasticizer of the plastic, who knows.

That's really good to hear (obviously not the allergic reaction part), especially as I checked the inert other ingredients and they were also the same which made me more worried but may e there's hope it will be okay! 🤞

The consultant may be thinking that the addition of a LAMA med will tackle any downside of the other 2 meds and allow them to work more effectively. There's another triple combination inhaler if you need to try a different mix.

Have you tried a different format, such as dry powder? Just in case the propellant or alcohol is causing the problem. Or aerosol if the lactose in the dry powder is the trigger.

The spiriva is a LAMA. I think they're suggesting it as they're running out of inhalers they can try me on. It also sounds like Fostair and Relvar are the two go to inhalers they suggest for people now. Relvar was amazing for my breathing but gave me awful throat infections even when following the gargling/brushing teeth advice. Fostair gave me really bad side effects to the point it's down on my record as an allergy, hence the apprehension that Trimbow contains the same drugs! I guess I hadn't considered though that one brand of a drug can give you side effects but a different brand of the same drug might not so it could be okay.

It also didn't occur to me that there would be different versions of fostair as they tried me on dry powder even though the dry powder Relvar had to be stopped, they only put me on to the aerosol after that.

Hi my asthma nurse, changed me from seretide to trimbow,. It's, happening alot to people. Think the new, inhalers are, triple action and they seem to be pushing them.i have been OK with it. They tell u to keep them in fridge until primed. I will know, more in the summer if they any good as, that's, when I suffer the most. Give it a try and as u say tell tell them if not suitable everyone is diff.
