Hi, I was recently prescribed the trimbow 87/5/9 inhaler and I have to take two puffs of the trimbow inhaler twice daily but when I was prescribed the trimbow, my gp pharmacist didn't tell me wether I had to stop my spiriva respimat inhaler or wether I had to carry on taking it along with the trimbow, is there anyone on this forum who has been in this situation before who could otherwise advise me wether I should stop the spiriva or wether I should carry on and take both the spiriva and the trimbow together, some help and advice would be very much appreciated.
Many Thanks In Advance
Dawn

I've been offered this 3 in1 they call them but don't want to stop spiriva its been my life saver for over a decade. You can't take this with spiriva but check with your Gp today. xx
Hi Dawn the only other inhaler you need with trimbo is the blue one in case it's needed trimbow is a 3 in 1 inhaler so you don't need any other inhaler apart from salbutamol or venturing with trimbo I take it at 7am then 7pm only use my blue one when needed ive been put on the hight dose now of trimbow it's causing oral thrush but it is what it is hope my information has helped
Trimble contains three drugs - a corticosteroid, a long acting betaagonist reliever and an ‘anti-muscarinic drug and Spireva is also an anti-muscarinic drug - so it is not logical to take two different anti-muscarinic drugs and there is also possibly a risk of side effects. In addition because Trimbow has three anti asthma drugs that suggests that your doctor thinks your asthma is severe ie needing three drugs for your asthma ( ie step 4 or 5 on the treatment ladder in asthma guidelines for doctors - which are used for more severe asthma).
Now in my view, and most other doctors with an interest in asthma, if someone has severe asthma or is thought to have severe asthma, they should be referred to an asthma specialist in one of the severe asthma clinics. Sadly in the U.K. only one in five ( only 20% ) of people with possible severe asthma are referred to asthma specialists. ( from research done at Imperial college in London).
So in my view, you should ask your doctor why you have been prescribed four asthma drugs ( ie Trimbow plus spireva; plus salbutamol if you are using that as well) and why you were prescribed two anti Muscarinic drugs which could result in side effects. Unless there is a good reason, and I can’t think of one, you should be advised to stop the spireva; surprisingly, your pharmacist didn’t say anything about this. And most importantly as you apparently need at least four drugs to control your asthma, you should ask to be referred urgently to a severe asthma clinic to see an asthma specialist.
The Trimbow replaces two inhalers, your Spiriva and the combo inhaler (eg Fostair, Symbicort, Flutiform, Seretide etc) as the Trimbow includes all 3 medicines. In addition to Trimbow you can take Ventolin as a rescue inhaler.
If you have an asthma plan, then this should be updated to show you what to do if you have an asthma flare up or even an acute attack.
Really don’t think you should be taking spiriva as well as Trimbow has fostair and Spiriva combined together I was offered this as I take both medications mentioned together and my doctor wanted to replace both with just the one being Timbow
