Spiriva is an inhaler that contains a long acting muscarinic antagonist and relief should be felt within minutes and last around 12 hours max. If you're not feeling any benefits, breathing wise, then review your lack of progress with your asthma nurse or doctor.

It works by relaxing the muscles, but it can have side effects that exacerbate asthma symptoms, so at this stage it would be wise to talk to the person who prescribed it.

The maximum effect can take about 4 weeks. I was put on this a few months ago, and it took about 2 weeks to see an improvement, but about 4 weeks to see the full effect. I find it very very good. I'd suggest try it for 4-5 weeks and if no improvement talk to your GP.

I have been on Spiriva for 7 years. I always thought it was ineffective until 2 years ago when I forgot to pack it when going away. After 2 days without it I realised it's value and was able to raise a replacement. I think as others have said it takes time to be effective but once it does it's job you may take it for granted as I did!
