Well it's day 3 of my treatment for pneumonia with oxygen, rescue steriods antibiotics and neubs (if necessary). I took myself to A&E on Thursday night as I thought my asthma was flaring and not responding to my salamol. Turns out not asthma but low oxygen levels and pneumonia.
The nhs were at there amazing best. Treated in majors til they figure out what was wrong with me Full work up. Bloods, artery blood test for gas, xray, 3 lots of neubs and oxygen.
Spend the day in A&E til admitted to medical at tea time.
Then to the ward. Still on 3L of oxygen, blood thinners, antibiotics and neubs if necessary.
I have seen the hospital's asthma nurse. She changed my regime to Mart. She was very through and made sure I understood what I was doing in terms of asthma.
Not allowed home til weaned off oxygen got 24 hrs and no neubs for same period of time.
One more day of rescue steriods (I started them before A&E). Then reviewed.
Day 4 of antibiotics with review at day 5.
Still coughing loads when I get out of bed and my arms look like two pin cushions.
Bored and little sleep but I know I am the right place.

Phew, definitely in the best place elanaoali. I'm glad you're in you own room (to avoid more bugs), nice and warm while being well looked after. It'll be a long haul back to normality after pneumonia so do look after yourself wont you, nice n easy does it. Very best wishes, P
Hiya, I should have as I've had it 5 times but I didn't know then what I know now. I forced myself back to work in a fairly stressful job in London and I think now that I knocked a few years off my life not to mention now having to live with CFS & the foreseeable (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). Must have thought I was invincible 🙄😭. To really recover properly I would definitely not go back to work too early. I'd take copious vitamins, minerals, supplements like Probiotic & tonics to rebuild my immune system which of course is severely depleted by the pneumonia and also the antibiotics. Really, really look after yourself, treat yourself like the person you love most in the world. TLC, keep warm, eat really healthily. It's a bit of an investment in yourself and your future to be honest. It's too late for me but if I can help prevent anyone not succumb to CFS I'd be delighted.

Thanks got your advise. I will listen to my body. Unfortunately as an agency worker no sick pay but God will provide. Unfortunately not old enough the pneumonia yet?
I understand, I was self employed so in the same position. I think I was 60 when I had pneumonia vaccination. It was the respiratory nurse who said after the 5th bout "hasn't anyone offered you the pneumonia vaccination? " then had a rant about useless GPs
Worth asking the consultant about the vaccine while you’ve got one to hand - they might put it in the discharge notes as a recommendation. There’s no age limit if you need it medically - I had my first at 40, and the NHS website says over two (with a different one available for babies). Since then I’ve been diagnosed with coeliac disease, so I now have one every five years, tho I was originally told it lasted for life.

Oh good! GP should have them now, I’d have thought, as they’re often given with the flu jab (at least they are at my surgery). Better check how long you need to wait after the current infection, tho.

Day 4 of my hospital stay. A very busy night in the wee hours. I max out on my new fostair nexthaler (using it for the relief part). Coughing and Coughing was the headline of the night. Had nebs too and ended up with the ward doctor. Who put up my oxygen by 2 and I stopped Coughing. He got the on call respiratory consultant to talk to me.
May be changing my antibiotics as the pneumonia isn't responding to it.
Prednisone day 6 (yuck) and day 4 of my antibiotics.
After a day full of every kind of doctor, consultant and respiratory department doctor coming to see me. Also signed up to 2 medical studies. Move to a bay room much better for seeing other people.Confirmation two separate things going on ... asthma attack and two it is pneumonia.
CT scan coming to just rule out blood clot. Hence blood thinner injection every day.
Still on oxygen not ready for weaning.
Weaning does start reduction rescue steriods by 5g each day.
Still on 2 antibiotics twice aday 3/5 on review on day 5.
Possibly of being moved from where I am general medical admissions to respiratory ward.
This ward is short term '3 ' days.
Still struggling to sleep 😴 hospital aren't a place for sleep too many people checking on me for obs etc.
Hope things continue to improve. I had two such hospital episodes in the last 3 years, both started as viral in nature with headaches, chills, aches, cough, fatigue and then chest infection. One was Covid, the other was something but they didn't know what. They did all the same things you are getting done and was happy to get out as you don't get much sleep in a busy ward. For me I don't feel I've been 100% after the first bout of Covid back in early 2020. I now also struggle with the booster vaccination sadly as I'm not anti it. The first couple of times not much side effects and the most recent this autumn triggered headaches, aching and weeks of coughing and kicked off my acid reflux again.
I have acid reflux too but good at the moment. My doctors think it was one viral pneumonia and then bateria piggy back onto the other. I started at the beginning of November with a cold and asthma flare up. Then w chest infection now I am here now b
