Admission

So this is definitely kinda weird. I hope this is coherent also.

Basically, I had an admission recently due to an asthma exacerbation. Haven't had an admission because of asthma since January when I had pneumonia.

Had recently had my 5th COVID vaccine, Moderna, I wouldn't be surprised if my lungs decided to freak out like they did for Pfizer. Will still be getting the vaccines as long as they think I need them though. Anyway, had this about 2ish weeks before the exacerbation. Also was meant to have my Xolair but there was a problem with the prescription so it was delayed by 2 weeks. Feel like this was just a recipe for disaster leading to the exacerbation.

This waiting for my Xolair seemed to make my whole system freak out. Also had a throat swelling episode which landed me in resus a couple days before the day I was admitted. I guess it's pertinent to mention I've struggling a lot more lately with my health in general (e.g. also had an adrenal crisis when I was admitted!). I'm concerned that they will think Xolair isn't working (when it is). I'm not really sure what to do tbh.

I suppose I just need support, and that's why I've typed this all out. Still feel really wiped out from the crisis. Hope you're all well.

Hi there just read your post. New to Group. Just thought I would say this sounds so awful for you. Admission to hosp due to exacerbation so bad. Ended up A & E on Tuesday so breathless after taking respiratory virus possibly flu which went deep into my chest and still breathless. Missed flu jag last year! - never ever do that again!

Just a thumbs up hope you are OK👍

Hi this sounds so awful. Finger’s crossed that you get the Xolair and are back to better health soon. Keep your chin up 🤗x

If I were you, I'd speak to an asthma nurse on 0300 222 5800 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm) because you might need to unload all this on someone with proper medical knowledge. I only know about my own case, so I'm not much help. Good luck!

Sounds horrendous.Only you know how you feel and what works, so if you want a certain med, insist on it.Hope all sorted soon, best wishes.🤗

Also new, similar story to yours, on xolair but hospitalised with pneumonia in Jan & have had two asthma flares needing pred since (am on 5mg daily anyway for adrenals). I was worried they’d take me off it but no, they seem ok to carry on despite only partial response.

I was admitted last year, this time, 2 weeks after the senior flu jab- Fluzone in the US. I became increasingly short of breath and O2 sat in 80s! Stayed in hospital for 4 days with heavy duty steroids. I am afraid to get it this year- flu vaccine. My primary doc has given me Tamiflu, on hand, in case I get the flu.

I had no problem with Pfizer covid shot or Shingrix.
