Not for me, and the other issue is that hypertonic saline can actually precipitate asthma attacks. Speak with your consultant (assuming you have one) about home nebulisers and if they will/won't benefit you, if you aren't under consultant-led care, nebulisers are a bit overkill. This kind of thing shouldn't be done without speaking to those in charge of your care.
I agree with Floating; only use a nebuliser if prescribed by your consultant. If they do suggest using a saline solution then I would expect the respiratory clinic to first try that with a patient under medical supervision, just in case there was a reaction that required immediate treatment.
Saline nebules come in different strengths so caution is necessary, probably starting with a low strength solution and working up until the right strength is achieved, under supervision.
They made me do my first one in hospital as others have said they can cause your FEV1 to plumet and precipitate an asthma attack .... however if your under a consultant and they are suggesting it its normally to clear mucus... Hypertonic saline is very good at that
Hi Ash123445,I take the saline in a nebuliser. It was prescribed by Respiratory Physio as I have Bronchiectasis. I had to attend a trial in the hospital first where they checked my heart rate regularly during the trial and asked a range of questions.
I was given the all clear to use it. I use it when I am struggling to shift deep seated mucous from my airways. It is very effective for that purpose, but as has been recommended previously, your respiratory specialist will be able to advise you.
I use a saline nebuliser with really wonderful results. It’s helped not only with asthma but clearing my sinuses which have been blocked since I first got covid. I’m no longer need as much steroid.
