Hello - yes I've tried it before (tho mine was 7%), it's supposed to help make thick, sticky mucus thinner & easier to cough up, but I couldn't get on with it, unfortunately it irritated my airways too much.
I've also tried carbocisteine (Mucodyne) but that just didn't make any difference at all
hope you get on ok with it - 6% might be less irritating
Thanks Polly.
Did you have difficulty getting it prescribed from your GP? My GP is refusing to prescribe it even though my Consultant wants me to have it.
Yes it does irritate the old lungs, I need a ventolin/atrovent neb pre and 2 or 3 nebs post but I cough some gunk up lol!
Hi
been using the nebs for a few months. It took a little while to get them perscribed by my gp. The partners had to approve the treatment as it's expensive. It also took a week for the pharmacy to order the nebs. Now everything is set up and ok. I also have salbutamol nebs before and after as it can irritate my lungs. But it has helped lots, my lungs arnt so gunky and no horrible infections needing i.v antibiotics. Hope things go well for you.
All the best
Sarah
No I had no problem at all getting it prescribed by my gp (who is great) but my local Lloyds pharmacist did make me feel guilty and said did I realise it had to be obtained from a private hospital lab (which I later found was untrue) and that it was very expensive, and why couldn't I just make up some saline to the appropriate solution myself & keep it in the fridge? My consultant was gobsmacked by this because of course it wouldn't be sterile and could introduce more bugs into lungs
Have you heard of Bronchitol? It's currently being trialled by Pharmaxis and is a mannitol-based inhaled powder which has an osmotic effect in the airways in order to thin the mucus. I can pm you a link if you want more details

Thanks seahorse
I have MucoClear 6% from the hospital pharmacy, I have asked my local pharmacy if they can order them in for me if I get the OK from my GP they said no its not on their order list but if I can get some other brand names they will look into it for me, I dont understand as they order in other meds for me but thats were I am at the moment, which brand do you use?
Been getting mine from Tesco, pharmacist knows me as used to work at the local hospital. Has to be ordered in but so do lots of other meds. So it not that hard to get hold of, if youre gp happy to fund it then wouldnt worry about unhelpful pharmacist. Prehaps try somewhere else? Havent heard about new inhaler, please can u send me the link, would be very interested. thanks
Been getting Mucoclear 6% from Tesco, same as got from hospital. No problems apart from have to wait a week or so.
