Hi everyone

I have been started on a bunch of new medication for my severe brittle asthma and also been told I will need to collect a nebuliser for short term use. ( a trial ) on Thursday. I presume I will learn more on the day about what the trial involves ect but I was just wondering if anyone else Is on theophylline tablets twice daily? (These are new) and has anyone had a home nebuliser trial before?

Thankyou x

My youngest son had brittle asthma as a child and we had a home nebuliser and I don't know how we would have coped without one

Just to add he is now a strapping armed response police officer passing all his fitness tests !

Wishing you all the very best as I know first hand what a horrible illness it is x

Hello

I’ve been on theophylline tablets for a number of years and find them helpful some GPS/Consultants don’t like them because of the side affects but I have found them useful.

I’m currently under the Severe Asthma Clinic at Guys Hospital as I’ve been on high doses of steroids for 2 years and had the same kind of issues your suffering with now.

During the early days my GP lent me a Nebuliser to see whether it would cut down my trips to A&E, which it did so I purchased one for home and a travel size one for trips out and both are a god send.

I get the nebules on repeat prescription and find it very useful to have at home but have strict instructions of when I need to call for help.

I had to go to Guys this last week as I’ve been having the usual symptoms tight chest, wheeze & a cough but they say it’s the hay fever is severe and now on fexafenadine morning & night hoping it relieves my symptoms soon.

Good luck with your Nebuliser trial and I hope you find it useful. (Please excuse any spelling mistakes as I’m useless! 😂)

Hi,

I used to take theophylline many years ago but haven't been on it for so long that I can't remember anything about it.

All I can say with any new drug is that it's always helpful to look up the side effects of any drug you are taking - not so that you stop taking it - especially if it is helping you - but so that you recognize any new symptoms and can ask the doctors how to help with these symptoms.

I once was on a drug for my asthma that caused a dry mouth and the shakes in my hands. I thought I was going crazy until a chemist told me the side effects of the drug I was taking (the shakes and a dry mouth). In this case the benefits of the drug did not make up for the side effects so I was able to go onto another drug that worked better for me. It's always better to know what you are dealing with as you are the one who can say best what is going on in your own body.

hi,

I haven't had the tablets but I have had the nebuliser trial

You will be shown how to use it when you go for it, the nurse will show you exactly how to put it together and everything Then you will do a trial to see how you get on with it before they let you take it home

You will then be given one with everything you need to get you started

Welcome to the nebuliser trial club
