Salbutamol nebuliser

Hi I'm using salbutamol 5mg nebuliser 4x a day it makes me have tremors after and increased pulse is this normal? I also have a condition sick sinus syndrome so any increase in pulse on top of this is not good. Can anyone advise. Oh yes I have COPD and asthma and brochiotasis.

Whilst on same meds I had shakes and heightened pulse. Doc said to expect it and stay in constant temp. Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, it can be normal. If you have a lot of Salbutamol, then it affects your heart. I have been told I have End Stage Asthma. Basically, what was reversible once, is now fixed, so Very Severe COPD. I only have 5mg Salbutamol nebs when in hospital, otherwise it is 2.5mg nebs for me. I don't seem to get the shakes much now, but then I have been taking it for over 50 years.

Hi Shaun, when I started taking salbutamol my insides would shudder. I thought I wouldn't be able to cope but its gone now. I hope you feel better with it soon cause its a horrible feeling.

Hi yes tremors and tachycardia (fast heart rate) are normal side effects for salbutamol nebs. I only have ‘emergency’ 2.5mgs at home (unless I’ve got an infection and been told to do 5mgs at home regularly). Most of my docs don’t encourage 5mgs for asthma unless having an attack in hospital, as they find little difference improvement wise but much bigger side effects. However I don’t know if the same is true for COPD or brochiotasis (bronchiectasis?) so I’d talk to whoever prescribed them and see if you can reduce.

On a side note when my asthma was really uncontrolled I eventually stopped noticing the tachycardia (not sure if it stop/reduced or if I just didn’t notice it anymore) and the tremors stopped completely.

Hope that helps

I Have asthma and COPD and have only ever had 2.5 mgs 4 hourly, maybe you would suit less strength more often like myself the lower can sometimes do that to me, no wonder you have tremors and tachycardia!! you can only try the lower dose and see. Sometimes if you take a lot of salbuterol inhaler this can happen too.😊
