burning sensation in lungs post asthma flair?

Hey all,

Wondering if anyone has experienced lung burning feeling post asthma flair (I just finished a 1 week course of pred 50mg). My PEFs have come back up + I'm no longer coughy (I also don't typically wheeze), I just have this burning feeling in my chest intermittently.

It's feels almost like a mild sore throat feeling, but deep in my lungs, mostly around the back bra line area, though intermittently feel it in different areas. It's not too bad during the day, but it's just annoying enough that it kept me awake most of last night :(

So between the asthma flair and some prednisone insomnia, I'm really hurting on the lack of sleep department at this point...

I'm assuming this is just residual inflammation in the lungs...? Upper airway feels fine (no sore throat or nose), no fevers.

Any ideas for soothing it? (also pretty sure it's not GERD - I tried some antacid stuff+ tylenol with no luck, and I don't normally have GERD). I don't think my rescue inhaler did much for it either. Inhaling steam seems to help a bit.

Thank you!

Post covid I have the burning pain in my back. Currently on steriods and antibiotics. Asthma nurse thinks it could be pleurisy.

Me too. It is localised and I can accurately point to it. Just started the steroids again. I'm not sure if I should do this... but I find a couple of diphenhydramine do allow me to get some sleep when on the steroids.

Sorry to hear you are as as uncomfortable as I am . I could mark the pain with a big cross

I have a lot of chest discomfort, inflammation, yawning, burning etc. for weeks after flares. Good to check in with your GP but just sharing my experience to commiserate!

Okay good to know. I usually have some tightness and coughing at the slightest breeze but the burning is a new one lol

I’m seeing the doc early this week, so I’ll chat with him for sure!

Currently post a and e visit and on prensidone. Chest just feels sore and grumbly.

Very different to the chest pain before an asthma attack, which is sharp.

I like a warm bath, or very gentle swimming.

ooh a bath might be a good idea. I slept about 13 hours after finally finishing my 7 day course so that helped too thankfully!
