I have asthma and have been on anti optics every other week for 20months. Also frequent courses of steroids. I have just been diagnosed with bronchiostasis in lower lobe of left lung. It is infective at the moment so on double dose of antibiotics. I am not sure now which one is making me breathless. I don't want to keep taking puffs of ventolin and not sure what to do. Has anybody any idead?

Sorry I don’t have any suggestions and would like to know the answer to this too as my daughter (15) has suspected bronchieststasis too (Hospital admissionsTues for 10-14 days followed by CT scan to get a good look).

Ventolin does seem to help her, we also increased preventer and on another occasion she had Prednisolone as chest infection affected her asthma. As I say I’m very new to this.

Have you tried the bronchiectstasis group here on Health Unlocked.

Hope you feel better soon

Hi there, I am asthmatic and was diagnosed with bronchiectasis in September 2018. It was explained to me that this was the reason I kept having chest infections which would then set off an asthma attack . A respiratory physiotherapist taught me to do Active Cycle Breathing (ACB). This moves the phlegm from your lungs. This phlegm gathers where you have the bronchiectasis and causes infection because it is not clearing out of your lung as it does in the unaffected parts of your lung.

You need the antibiotics to clear the infection and your blue inhaler if your asthma is not good.

I do the ACB twice a day, it takes about 15-20 minutes each time, I have not had a chest infection for nearly a year now and feel much better.

I know everyone always says this but also keep taking all your preventive medications for your asthma. I hope you feel better soon.
