Montelukast side effects

Hello

Ive been using montelucast for 5mths and i have to say i rarely think of my ventolin now....

However, i have been kept awake by paralysing pins and needles starting from my middle left finger and spreading to all other fingers and tracks up my left arm to my spine.

This has become progressively more feirce and i can only think that its the montelucast that's the cause.

I stopped taking it 2 days ago and am still experiencing all this.

Wonder if symptoms dissipate now and soon hopefully....otherwise im not sure what it can be.

Ive told 3 different drs but they just dont know and suggest amitriptamaline which i take 20.g a night for muscle spasm in my neck due to neck injury. Taken them for years.

Anyone have any ideas please?

Hi. I was very interested to read your post. Although I’ve never taken montelukast I have been getting terrible pins and needles in my left foot and leg, which often stops me walking andI feel like I’m going to fall. It feels as if my foot is swollen like a balloon but it’s not at all. Sometimes I get pins and needles in my hand and arm too. Also my left arm. That’s less frequent though, and most times not so bad. But in my leg it’s just ridiculous, sometimes I have to wait many minutes for it to pass and I have to stand still and wait for my foot and leg to revert to normal, before I can move again. I have no idea what’s causing it. It might be totally unrelated to lung stuff. I really don’t know. Which is not very helpful to you but it was just interesting to find a fellow ‘sufferer’.

However, I would suggest you give it a while as many medications take several days to get out of your system. So although you stopped taking the Montelukast 2 days ago you could still be experiencing side effects from it. Good luck to you!

Hi, found this under Montelukast on website.

Immune system problems warning: This drug may increase your risk of certain immune system problems. These include systemic eosinophilia with vasculitis, and Churg-Strauss syndrome. With this syndrome, there is an increase of white blood cells in your body. This can cause numbness in the arms or legs, or flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, or cold sweats.

I have same symptoms. It got so bad that I ended up with very limited movement, dizzyness and pain. My Doc said it could be my vitamin B is low. Apparently side effect of montelukast depletes vitamin B. I've been taking vitamin B injections weekly for 3 weeks now as well as oral supplement. I stopped taking montelukast. I feel a bitter better. Mobility improved, numbness is slight compared to before.

Vitamin B is responsible for healthy nerve and spinal cord function. Good luck. Let us know if you find a solution.
