Asthma flair with fast heart beat

I wonder if anyone has had similar symptoms? I am just recovering from a bad flair up of asthma which has been a problem for the last 5 weeks. After a drop in peak flow and increased asthma symptoms, I was put on a 7 day course of steroids which seemed to improve things. I struggled through the following week with no steroids. I’m on Symbicort SMART so was taking 2 puffs 4x a day, plus Spiriva Respimat, Montelukast, Fexofenadine 180 and Mometesone. After a week I couldn’t carry on, went back to go and was put on another course of steroids; 7 days full dose and 7 days tapering off. As I started to taper off, symptoms got bad again so I went back to dr. I stuck my finger in the oxometer/pulse thing and dr said I was going to have to call an ambulance because my pulse was so fast (165). My oxygen wasn’t bad at 97. After blood tests, x-rays, heart tracings and so on they said I had a chest infection and was free to go home with antibiotics. I saw the gp 5 days in to the antibiotics and was feeling better and chest sounded pretty clear but was still getting the feeling that my heart kept racing. The dr has ordered a 24 hour heart trace as she was not happy that my heart was still going too fast, 120, so not as fast as at first.

Now I’m feeling very much better my heart seems completely normal again. Has anyone else had this? Is it an effect if the infection? Reduced oxygen levels or what? Any similar experiences? Thanks

Yes and I had loads of tests done (ecg's, echocardiogram, chest ct etc) the consultant I saw at the time that my stupidly high heart rate was my body's way of compensating for uncontrolled asthma (I wasn't taking any asthma medication at the time)

The steroids in inhalers can cause an irregularly fast heartbeat and anxiety is also prevalent too which will cause similar. If your body is fighting an infection such as chest infection, your heart is having to work much faster to fight the infection off. All of the above are likely to explain the abnormality.
