I've had it for about 5 years now I think. I take 3 puffs twice daily plus I do the SMART regime with it as well. I haven't taken Seretide for a long time so I can't really compare but different inhalers do seem to work better for different people. I would suggest giving it a trial if it works better fantastic, if not you can always go back to the Seretide.

Hi Emma - I have been on Symbicort 400/12 for a number of years. My normal dose is the same as yours - two puffs twice daily. It usually keeps me well under control - except when I have one of my frequent colds. I have in the past reduced down to one puff twice daily but I have found recently that I cannot do that and I need use the prescribed dosage.
I took it for many years but changed back to seretide at the start of this year as I did not have the puff to take the turboinhaler used with the symbicort. They do work differently for different people so give it a chance I had no side effects from it and used the SMART plan. I was on four puffs twice a day so don't worry about the dose level two twice a day is normal I think.
I am on it also, 3 puffs twice a day at the moment. I definitely think it is worth trying and if it controls your asthma, you can always reduce it in the future.

Previously on Seretide 500 now on Symbicort 400/12 3 puffs twice a day and have been for 4 years! Its okay, don't see any difference myself but still on it!
oh god i cant get away with this inhaler although i do still take it 2/4 puffs morning and night as per instructions, i would get my wrist slapped if i didnt use a preventer as well as a reliever (also use slo-phyllin in tablet form too for my asthma). im meant to use it as symbicort smart method but its rubbish for me and i end up having full blow attacks. hope it works out better for you though. dont use Seretide any more sorry xxx
I also use Symbicort 400/12, 2 puffs twice a day. I used to be on Seretide 500, Symbicort didn't make me either better or worse than when I was on Seretide so I stayed on it, it's been over 4 years now.
I don't use the SMART regime, but I have an agreement with my consultant that I can increase my Symbicort use up to a maximum of 12 puffs per day - the tremors are pretty bad but I'll try anything to keep out of hospital!
I'd say it's definitely worth a go
I have just been given this too, seretide was giving me leg cramps. Shame its a turbohaler, I dont like the fact you can't feel or taste anything, but I'll give it a go!
Im on symbicort 400/12 4 puffs twice daily plus 2 puffs prn I think its a great little inhaler it seems to work for me anyway xx
I was on this 1 4 4 months, unfortunatly it hasnt realy workd for me and i no tpe similar through a neb, it is a fantastic little inhaler and cons swear by it-

i just been changed to the this inhaler also 4 days ago, dosage of 2puffs twice dailly with option of upping dose to 2puffs 4 times dailly. and also told still need to have blue inhaler with me at all times also, it so confusing because if feeling SOB, wheezy which do i take. i also think i not taking it right sometimes especially with not being able to feel or taste anything also.
Thanks for the replies - it's reassuring to hear of so many other people taking similar doses. It sounds like it works for some people but not for others.
I am a bit nervous about changing because my breathing isn't good at the moment, just been given another course of oral steroids, but if the consultant thinks it's ok I'll go with that.
Thanks again!
Stupid turbohaler! I wondered why my symptoms were getting worse, been taking this for a week now but the numbers don't seem to be moving on the dial, so I have no idea if I've had some/any. That's why I prefer MDI's! LOL
