I have read lots on pain and I definitely get that down around my hip and mainly into my knees . Over the last 6 months I have become more aware of what feels like weakness when walking and I find it very difficult to get out of chairs and impossible to stand up from the floor.
I’m waiting on seeing an osteopath, the physiotherapist at my GP made the referral after seeing me due to lack of movement (can’t put my socks on). I did have a hip X-ray 5 years ago on the back of hip pain which showed moderate osteoarthritis but not severe enough at that stage to have surgery.

Hi, greetings from the AF forum! All sounds very familiar, my x-ray showed bone spurs but still had some cartilage so I was told no surgery until I was walking ‘bone on bone’. My leg sometimes collapses under me and after walking any distance I start losing the feeling in my legs, though that may be due to spinal arthritis. And can’t put weight on my right leg to get up from the floor, can’t lie on my right side without pain. I have a gadget for socks but lace up shoes are a killer. Physio did nothing for me but a cortisone injection in my hip worked wonders.
I’m interested to know if the osteopath comes up with anything useful!
why hello my fellow afibber 💕 thank you for sharing, sounds familiar right enough! My left leg is worse but can tell my right is catching up. I got a letter about 3 months ago to opt into hip replacement waitlist here in Edinburgh. I’ve wanted to get past my heart surgery before any further surgery but heart surgeon says I’ll be fine now to go ahead. So think I’ll try and see a private osteo consultant in the spring if I’m still on the NHS waitlist just so I know next steps.
I'm so so sorry I have been there with the pain and know only too well what you are going through When I went through it I couldn't put any weight on my leg the pain went down to my knee and in my groin
I've had both my hips replaced best thing ever
I don't know if this will help but I also needed a new knee which I had in Dec 2021 Because things were so bad due to Covid and waiting lists I paid for a private consultation it cost me £300 with x-rays and I tell you it was worth every single penny he then put me straight on his NHS waiting list When I saw the orthopedic practitioner at our surgery she said it will take months and months and months to see a consultant She was right as she forgot to cancel my referral I saw her in November and it was the following August that out of the blue an appointment to see a consultant came through ! We rang the lovely surgeon who did my hips and I got an appointment within a week
I wish you all the very very best as it's so painful Sending big hugs and I hope that you get treatment and are out of pain very soon
I got a physio appointment, having seen a consultant to confirm I have generalised osteoarthritis, and she gave me some exercises. I walk ten thousand paces almost every day plus I view Joe Wicks on UTube. He has a series of exercises for seniors - put Joe Wicks Seniors into utube - and I do the ten minute ones six times a week. When it’s not Christmas!!
