Hi there, no, I mean inflammatory osteoarthritis. (Please see photo attached) I have an understanding about Rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoarthritis but not inflammatory osteoarthritis?
The letter is very poor. I had to check whether it was a definite diagnosis or not? Although the wording is very poor, it is confirmed and I have been prescribed Duloxetine to help with Fibromyalgia
Do you take statins? I know that they can cause inflammation and pain in joints and muscle tissue. I've just stopped them for the second time. Due to inflammation and pain in my joints and muscles. I won't be starting again.
Hi there. No I do not take any statins. Good that you were able to figure out what was causing your inflammation and pain in your joints and muscles. I hadn’t heard of that before? I’ll bear that in mind if statins are recommended!
Dr Malhootra’s advice on diet would probably benefit most of us whether on statins or not. Michael Mosley’s site Clever Guts is also useful for changing to a less inflammatory diet. It does sound as if inflammation is present in your conditions so that seems a good place to start.
Hi Jeffreys , thanks for reaching out. The important thing to remember is that you're not alone - there are over 10 million people in the UK living with arthritis, making it the most common form of disability in the country. Inflammatory osteoarthritis is a specific type of osteoarthritis, so it may be useful to read more about osteoarthritis and how it leads to inflammation. It may be a good start to look into the information available on the Arthritis Action charity website, arthritisaction.org.uk/livi...
The website also includes techniques and advice on how you can self-manage your new diagnosis while you wait to be seen again by a healthcare professional, as well as Personal Stories from other people living with osteoarthritis like you.
Thank you so much for your reply. Being told you have Fibromyalgia and inflammatory osteoarthritis should have put my mind at rest, it could be much worse. I think I’ve just been getting so frustrated not being able to find information to that specific diagnosis.
My rheumatologist phoned me today, I spoke with her also about my concerns regards my bloods being out of range.
She was able to explain it a little better (still confused tho lol) and keep me open to them for 6 - 12 months
She is also going to write to my GP Re anemic results and IBS flare ups
My RLS has kept me awake for most of the last 2 nights.
Anyway, enough moaning, I will have a look at the website
That's great to hear that your rheumatologist is there to chat with you further! There may be a learning curve, but as you say, it's good that you've been diagnosed and have a healthcare support group around you.Hope the website is useful for you, and all the best!
I have fibromyalgia, polymyalgia & osteoarthritis, amongst other things! I was diagnosed with osteo arthritis, but then had a flare up of joints & it was called first episode of inflammatory arthritis. I’ve seen a rheumatologist, a orthotics specialist (trouble with toe joints) & a hand specialist & got a lot of help from them. I read up versus arthritis, but I was given lots of pamphlets, too...maybe ask for them if you prefer written reading matter!! Arthritis action is excellent, too. It’s new to me, too, I joined this forum about 2 months ago!
Well...I now have specially made insoles to take pressure off big toes, & other bad places, plus thumb splints to give thumbs a break, plus compression gloves, two types, plus wrist & hand splints for night wearing! I feel well splinted! The night splints are mainly to help my carpal tunnel syndrome, the feet insoles also help my plantar fasciitis, & the other splints should help my arthritis! I also have a set of hand/finger/thumb exercises to do each day! BUT this is all new to me, too, & I haven’t explored it yet on the web sites, so I’m sorry I can’t tell you where to find the info! I have a lot of hobbies that involve hands, like crochet & piano playing, ones which involve feet, hiking, & one involving both, gardening! But I know I isn’t do any for a long time, but chop & change my activities. It all seems worse when it’s cold, but it’s warm again here now!! I also have polymyalgia & fibromyalgia and the steroids I take for the polymyalgia mask the arthritis, so it only shows & gets worse as I lessen the steroids!! Complicated, or what?! But will be reading pamphlets & looking at web sites in the next two weeks...good luck, hope you find something, & do come back to the forum if you find anything specific or get a better understanding of it all from your doctor! I will do the same!!
Thanks Pixix, good luck and best wishes. If you read anything interesting in the pamphlet it would be good to know. If I find any info, I will of course keep in touch!
hi there, I hope you have found the recent posts helpful. I too have been diagnosed with inflammatory osteoarthritis ( about 3 years ago). It has come and gone in my feet and hands, but I haven't had a flare up (from base line) for a while. I did find some information at the time; all arthritis has an inflammatory element it seems, more that just the old fashioned "wear and tear" over- simplified explanation. I don't take any regular medication, but was offered steroids for flare ups; which I have not tried. For me, diagnosis has been some what imprescise over the years as I also have a rare pain condition in hands and feet (erythromelalgia). Inflammatory osteoarthritis can come and go, and does not nescessarily get worse - it may get better. Good luck to you!
Hi there, thanks so much for your reply. My osteoarthritis is already getting worse, so I hope, like yours, will calm/stop soon. I asked about steroids but they will not prescribe them for me. The Rheumatologist said they would not benefit Inflammatory osteoarthritis?
