Hello guys, I’ve found the advice from you folks to be really helpful since I’ve been on here moaning and groaning so I just wondered if any of you have experienced any measurable improvement in arthritis symptoms using supplements and lifestyle changes?

I have just been recommended for TKR surgery on my right knee but in the letter to my GP I have noticed the specialist has said there is severe tricompartmental osteoarthritis in my left knee too. I really don’t want to go through all this again if I can avoid it so that is why I’m looking for an effective supplement. I have used cod liver oil and turmeric for years anyway and haven’t really found any benefit from those although I still take it out of habit.

So if you guys can recommend anything that can hold off or reverse the effects of osteoarthritis please let me know.

I am not sure any supplement can hold off knee replacement as such, they just relieve the pain. Exercise can help though. I have had Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections which they reckon can hold off knee replacement for eight years, I am not sure how true that is !! It has worked for me though, but it is expensive.

Not sure any supplement can do that- although glucosamine seems to have been recommended for a long time. .and not fallen out if favour, like many. Vitamin C and D are also mentioned, as is Collagen.

Have you tried any of the following gels etc - recommended by various patients over the years [apologies if you have] - results again depends on severity -

1.Flexiseq -

flexiseq.com/

2.Active Skin Care -

naturalskincarefactory.com/

3. 5Kind Hemp oil [also on Amazon]

5kind.com/search?type=produ...

4. Motorbikers Warrior Balm

motorbikers.cc/product/warr...

Have tried the top three - and all reasonably successful - cannot comment on No.4

I tried fexiseq a while back on my right knee it didn’t help to be honest but I guess it was too far gone by then. I’ve not tried the others I will look into them.

I tried Flexiseq. I liked the cool feeling, but as you say it did not do very much otherwise.

Didn't help my left knee... like you, probably too far gone when I found it - so doubt anything would tbh. But it and others did help left shoulder before getting too bad and being replaced - and they are helping right one. I do mix and match sometimes.. for example one in am, another pm.

Always worth a try in my mind.. some you win, some you lose.. 😊

adding to what Dorset lady says: There was a piece of research done about ten years ago (from memory) showing that glucosamine was helpful for knee pain.

I don’t, I’m glad to say, have knee pain but my toes don’t bend and that’s very painful (hallux rigidus) UNLESS I take glucosamine with chondroitin. This keeps the pain down.

I've had one knee replacement, I found that eating an anti-inflammatory diet reduced pain enormously, though it didn't improve my mobility, which became very restricted. Pretty much a Mediterranean diet, and I found that completely avoiding sugar made a huge difference.

I endorse what Belle 11 says about sugar. I minimised added sugar about a year and a half ago. After a few months I noted a difference when walking downhill. I put it down to weight loss, but then I saw a video by Alyssa Kuhn where she explains that insulin deprives the cartilage of glucose, which is why glucosamine works for some. Dr Ruscio also on YouTube healed an arthritic hip with life style changes.

The thought of having bones sawn off and replaced by bits of metal is in my mind quite horrifying.
