Arthritis and ankle surgery query

Has anyone had ankle fusion surgery? I’ve been advised to have an external framework to give the operation a better chance of working. It’s an old injury operated years ago, now developed arthritis and scan showed bones weren’t fused. Thoughts welcome.

Hi,I havn't had it but was offered it due to old injuries that cause pain from a car crash 30 years ago. However, they did say that this may not take the pain away, and there would be a minimum 14 weeks healing process for each ankle and they would have to be done separately. As I work, I could not have this much time off without pay, so I declined it. My injuries are too numerous for steroid injections to work, so I just stick to the pain killers.

I do know someone ( a friend of a friend so don't know the full story) who has it done due to car crash injuries, and it had helped his pain. However he said it crude surgery with 2 massive screws going through the ankles like crossed swords. This stops all movement and so walking on a slope is difficult, stair walking is done flat footed, and his feet stick up in bed at night. Something to consider. Good luck

I have just had an ankle fusion 3 weeks ago all seems well but confirm feet stick up in bed when lying flat - can’t move them. Will be worth it if it cures the pain.
