Does anyone have recent experience of a total knee replacement? 13 weeks post op. I’m experiencing real difficulty walking without limping and pain.

Hi KnockingKnee, I had a new knee about 5 years ago and it took me about 6 months to get walking on it and about 2 years to get totally pain free. My Father in law was pain free after just a few months with very little exercise. It Varys from person to person. Just stick with it, it will get better and be worth the effort.

I am around eighteen weeks post op, I can walk but it’s unsteady and steps are the same as before op. still have a swollen abnormal knee and pain in the leg at night . However it’s better than before op and much more mobile than just after the op. So there is time for you to improve in the coming weeks keep working at it ,it will get better , but if not might be worth asking your GP for reassurance as we are all different and recovery takes time.I was told that I may never get normal use back as my knee was left too long and has damage that may never return to normal. So I truly hope yours does improve with more time best wishes.

Many thanks. Yes mine too was left too long. I’d had no cartilage for over 30 years so it wasn’t a surprise. I think I was overly optimistic about the immediate outcome from the op but at least I’m more mobile than when my knee was the size of a football with a fracture, bakers cyst and agonising pain. Part of the problem is having no access to physios due to Covid so not knowing whether you’re doing exercises correctly or making good progress. I’ll keep on with them and hopefully will see some improvement.

You sound a bit more optimistic this afternoon, keep up the exercises use it or loose it’s we say.
