Okay guys here’s an update on my right foot. I saw my gp yesterday afternoon for my six month check up. I told him about the pain I was having in my right foot. He looked at my foot top and bottom and I told him where it’s currently hurting me. He told me that it’s planters fasciitis I have that I’m feeling in the arch of my foot. He gave me a prescription for cream/ointment for the pain. I took the prescription to the pharmacy this afternoon to get filled . Who’s used that for pain? Or does it actually work? My gp said it should. Also I was thinking about buying a brace for both during the day and night as well to sleep in. The pain is horrible and is why I’m using crutches when I’m home to stay off of it. I’m not new to using crutches I’ve had to use them it the past for an ankle injury years ago. Any recommendations on braces or splints I should look into buy to help as well ? Thanks for your suggestions.

An update from my last post on my right foot.
Hi, If it is plantar fasciatis (I may have spelt that wrongly!) I sorted mine with insoles in my shoes that support the arches and stop the pain. Got them from Amazon I think. Best of luck with it.
Good morning Carolen, my foot is pretty painful this morning. I’ll be going on amazon and look into getting a splint/brace that I can both sleep in and use during the day. Also I’m still having to get around on crutches do to the pain I’m having. It’s actually worse now than it was last night. I used the crutches last night as well. Putting weight on it makes it a lot worse that’ why I’m having to use my crutches to get around. I just hope it eases up later on so I can walk on it and not use the crutches. I’ll keep you updated.
Hi, When I had Plantar fasciatis I too had insoles for arch support to ease the pain which it did a little I also wore arch rocker trainers (still do) they put you off balance slightly but you have less foot motion to deal with so I could walk further without so much pain in the top of my foot. I still cannot walk as far today with normal soles shoes as with the arch rockers. Might not work for you we are all different but might be worth a try
Vondel, The pain this morning is unbearable right now. It’s worse now than it was last night. I’m definitely going to have to stay off of it as much as possible. I’ll probably keep using my crutches to get around and keep off a f it. The pain was horrendous when I first got out of bed. I have it propped on a pillow right now. I still need to go get my prescription from the pharmacy and I’m probably going to have to go in there on my crutches today. I went in there yesterday afternoon without being on them. Today is different tho. I’m going to go on amazon again today and order me a brace/ splint for my foot. I may get a couple of different ones. I’m just going to have to take it easy today and stay off of it as much as possible and use the crutches to get around. I’ll keep you posted with progress.
When I had plantars it was in my heal and I bought some gel like heal supports on Amazon and they do all different foot supports worth a try. It took a while to get better but the supports help releive the pain, so far fingers crossed I have had no further problems but I do wear support insoles all the time. Hope you find something to help as the pain can get you down.
Good morning Katie, I wish I could tell you I was better this morning compared to last night but right now it feels worse from last night. I’ll be getting a brace/splint that I can use for it too. I’m still having to get around on my crutches just to stay off my foot do to the pain, witch I’ll be doing today as well. My whole foot hurts right now. I’m wondering if I should go to a foot doctor for this . The last time I went to a foot doctor was when I sprain right ankle and I ended up having to go into the office on crutches and an air cast brace that I got from the emergency room the night I ended up in there then. I’m going to be taking it easy today and if I do need to get up and around I’ll be using the crutches to stay off of it. Will be in touch.
Sorry things are not getting better for you, The heal thing I had did not work straight away, I had acupuncture too and physio for several weeks plus a visit to a foot specialist at the NHS.I do think you need to see a foot specialist, because you have other problems that cause pain.It is obvious your pain is in crisis and you need extra support .It could be any number of things, not least what the doctor says.As the whole foot is hurting I would think it was something else or maybe two problems at once. Have you tried a salt footbath,? the warm water might give a little releive or do you have an hotwater bottle. I am afraid if it was me I would call an ambulance or go to A&E as the pain is worsening. Please don't leave it as it is possibly serious not just a sprain? Take care
Katie like yesterday I’m feeling the pain on the very top of my foot plus in the arch area. I haven’t tried anything for it yet. I’ve only been using the crutches to stay off my foot when it’s very painful. Plus I’ve taken Aleve to see if it will ease the pain or not. I’ll let you know how today goes for me in registration if I have to use my crutches all day or not . Only time will tell.
Hope things are better for you today if not you better keep to crutches. I had the exercises Slivia as suggested but they made the pain worse for me, but might work for you. Only time will tell, sometimes things do seem to take forever to improve.
Good morning Katie, I applied the ointment on my foot this morning and gave it time to dry. While I was letting it dry I did stay on the crutches so I could put my lunch together for today. I will be taking my crutches with me so if the pain returns I’ll have them to use. It has been acting up in the middle of the day and by the time my work day is done I can barely even put weight on my foot. So just in case it does that again today after putting the ointment on my foot this more and it still acts up I’ll have the crutches with me . I don’t want my foot start acting up on my and not have my crutches with random need then. So will see. I do need to make a stop or to on the way home so hopefully I won’t need to be back on the crutches do to the pain coming back. It’s a wait and see situation. Hopefully by this afternoon I won’t be back on the crutches. I’m keeping my fingers cross that I won’t be needing to be back on crutches by this afternoon. Will see.
Makes sense to me, good luck.
Good afternoon Katie just giving you an update on how this foot of mine did today after starting with the ointment that I put on it this morning. Like everything it only last for a few hours. By 10:30 11:00 this morning it started to sore again and I could feel the pain coming back. Most likely I will probably use my crutches tonight or should I say for the rest of the evening just to stay off of it after being on it for eight hours. I think that’s probably the best thing to do til I’m completely pain free. When ever that happens. I’m know it’ll take some time for this ointment to help but I think for the first time putting it on the bottom of my foot I could tell that it help take the edge off some. I’m still going to look into night splints and braces as well. Because having to use the crutches can get real old real quick. You probably know if you’ve had to use crutches before in the past. Well I’m going to go for now Kate have a good evening.
Good Morning, most of the pain releivers only take the edge off and often don't last that long. Glad you sound more optimistic about trying more than one thing to ease the pain. There are no magic pills , but tablets too can take the edge off. I was looking at some xrays of gout joints and the Tophi look more like spurs on the bones not how I imagined Tophi would look or joint crystals. Did a bit of wallpaper stripping yesterday to my regret, really flares up the joint pain, but thats how gout is over exercise brings on pain. but with osteo low level exercise helps What do you do when you have a moderate amount of both???? smile and try to cope against the odds. Have as good a day as possible. Take care
I’d have to agree with you Katie that it only takes the edge off the pain. It’s already acting up. Like yesterday morning I put my crutches in the car just in case of needing them later on. It looks like I’m going to need them again after I get off from work. I did need them first thing this morning as well while getting ready for work. This is very tiring but I’m trying to make the best of this even if it means that I have to be on crutches for this to ease the past n even more.
Do you have a sit down job? I used to work but with adaptations, not a sit down job either, used to work in social services dementia home. Anyway you are doing well hope you are resting too, I can as I am retired but still involved in groups for older people over 50, and the age freindly city project in my city. That's why I am always on line early morning. Bye for now
No Katie I’m always on my feet once I get to work. With exception of when I’m at lunch. That’s about the only time I’m off my feet. That’s why by mid morning my foot is usually hurting again til I get home to get off of it weather it to prop it up on a pillow or start using the crutches again to stay off of it when getting around. I tell ya tho this is getting old having to do this everyday just to stay off of it. I’ve read that some people also have used crutches to take the weight off the effected foot until the pain subsides . So I guess I’m doing the right thing by using my crutches to decrease the pain by keeping my weight off my foot. I’m in hopes that today isn’t to painful, but like the last two day I’ll be taking the crutches with me in case it get severe or unbearable that I can’t stand on it or put just a little weight on it. You ask me I don’t think this ointment is doing me much good . But I’m going to give it a week to see if it starts to ease up for me . Gotta run for now Katie to finish getting ready for work. Hoping for a painless day today.
Good look for less pain today, cream does not sound like it's doing much for you. Sounds like you could do with one of those things they put on to support broken bones, think it's called a compression splint, big blue thing. Guess it will be back to doctors if no better next week. I think you ought to be off sick till they find a suitable pain releif, sadly some people have to persevere can't afford to loose wages or their job. Bye for now.
Hi. There are exercises for P.F. Which your GP should have given you. Stand on stairs with your front part of foot on stair. Then stretch your foot down, then up, pressing down on stair. Do 20 times twice daily. It takes a couple of months, but PF will improve.
I had PF some while ago, & my GP gave me the exercise sheet, followed instructions & it went. You can also get info from internet on PF. Hope this helps.
Silvia all I was give for my foot was a prescription for a cream/ointment to apply 2 times a day. That was all I was given. Like yesterday morning it hurts this morning like you wouldn’t believe. That’s why I’m using crutches to get around when I need to. It helps me stay off of it when I’m on my crutches.
Forget the cream , forget the insoles, I tried them in every shape ( no disrespect intended to any above posts ) go back to gp & ask to see orthopaedic surgeon . The only good way , in my opinion. to get any longterm relief is a cortisone injection into the heel . I've had these " heel spurs " which is actually what the plantar facilitis is, in both heels . It's hurts like hell . The injections aren't pleasant but the pain is nothing compared to that of walking on the spur . My left foot was done over 10 years ago, my right in December 2016. I'm now pain free in my heels. PF is a major symptom of my Psoriatic Arthritis, along with Achilles Tendonitis . Best of luck xx
Phillylou it’s actually an ointment that I put on my foot twice a day. I started it this morning. I’m going to take my sock off on a little while and apply it for the second time. In the meantime I’ll keep using my crutches to stay off my foot while I can. That’s helped me more than anything else has . Sad to say . But using the crutches is keeping weight off the foot enough not to keep it hurting anymore than it does. At this point I’m going to do what it takes to ease the pain . So if it means having to be on my crutches than I guess I’ll keep doing that to keep me comfortable.
Hi. I think Phillylou is right. Ask for a referral to see an orthopaedic Dr. Meanwhile keep trying with the exercise. Also, I understand that steroid injection into heel can sometimes help. There must be something out there that can reduce or stop the pain.
Silvia, my gp never told me to do exercises for my foot. Never even mentioned it. He joust asked how long I’d been having the pain in my foot. I started using my crutches last week to see if that helped by staying off of it while leg I needed to move around, like going to the restroom or going to another room. I haven’t been out in public on my crutches do to it’s hard trying to do things while being on them. I do have an ointment my gp game me to put on my foot twice a day. It’s Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel 1 percent. Prescription only. I’m just wondering how long it’s going to take before I can stop the usage of my crutches. Or the ointment. I’m feeling the pain more in the mornings and evenings. I end up using the crutches when I first get up in the mornings then again in the evenings. When my pain is the worst . Some foot doctors put a cast on the affected foot and keep that leg in it for at least four weeks from what I’ve read.
