Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with multi joint arthritis in my hip, both knees a, back and toe. I take naproxen and cocadomal to relieve the pain and stop inflammation. I also take turmeric with pepper. Am I taking too many pain killers? Cocodamol gives me constipation and turmeric gives me the runs. Taken together, they balance each other.

Hi, try taking a laxative when takin higher dosage co-codomol. I suffered a horrendous bout of constipation when the co-codomol was increased to 30/500
I agree with you about cocodamol. I just take half a dose (one tablet) then it’s ok, loo-wise.
My GP is a pain specialist so he’s very helpful. Because I have arthritis along with muscle and joint pain caused by the tablets I take to prevent recurrence of cancer, he led me through a lot of painkillers until I got where I am now, which is morphine patches topped up each early morning with ibuprofen. Many things were tried with little effect, and Ibuprofen isn’t for everyone.
I also take glucosamine with chrondiotin which my chiropodist suggested, along with turmeric (which doesn’t give me the troubles you’ve had). My husband takes magnesium for his arthritis which helps him but doesn’t do anything for me. I’ve also tried rosehip - no good for either of us.
So what I’m saying really is that you might want to try different things to see what works for YOU. I certainly don’t think you’re overdosing.
My pharmacist is very helpful, so if you have a chat with him or her about painkillers over-the-counter products other you might find it very useful.
Hi Akuno , thanks for reaching out with your story.
We'd definitely recommend speaking to your GP and a healthcare professional if you have any worries about your prescriptions, as they can give you professional guidance based on your own situation and medical history.
In the meantime, we'd recommend taking a look through the self-management section of our website. The site has several pages with information on how you can manage your painful symptoms during a flare up.
In particular it may be worth looking at the pages on self management, wellbeing, and pain management in case these have any useful information for you.
