Hi, first time I’ve posted here.

I’m new to Osteoarthritis, which the doctor has recently told me I have got in my right hip, back and between my shoulder blades which I assume is my neck.

I’ve also recently started getting pain in both wrists and my left elbow and today some slight pain in my knee’s.

Is this normal for it to be so widespread.

Well, join the club! The NHS has “exercises for older people” which I do every other day, and this helps to keep you mobile. You must keep as supple as you can. Chat to your pharmacist about pain killing meds,

Hi Happyrosie, I try to ensure I am as active as possible.

I’ve been taking paracetamol but it doesn’t always help, I will talk to my pharmacist as you suggest and see if there is something better I can use.

Try using turmeric and black pepper capsules for the pain, they help some people. Don't take them if you are on blood thinners though. You can get them on amazon, they work for me.

I have OA in neck and feet and recently I have been having sore knees and wrists but I'm not putting it down to OA just yet. Get yourself xrayed and take it from there.

Good luck 🤞

Hi, Thehandyman,

Interesting as this is the 2nd post suggesting Turmeric which yourself and lande have both said they work. Unfortunately I am on blood thinners so that is a problem.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Hi Den, I am in the similar boat at 57. I have found that high dose Turmeric has been a saviour for me. It helps with the pain and also allows you better mobility.

The key to this debilitating illness is keep yourself as mobile as possible. I would suggest Tai Chi as it is gentle on all the joints. Good luck.

Hi Ian, thank you for the advice.

I will look into the use of Turmeric, just need to ensure it doesn’t cause a problem with my blood thinning medication.

I try to keep as active as possible but don’t much about Tai Chi, I will have a look at this.

Once again thank you for the advice.

Hi Hidden , sorry to hear that you're feeling such widespread pain across your body.

It may be worth reading this web page on our website which gives a bit more information on what arthritis actually is, as well as an explainer on some of the most common forms of arthritis. This may help you understand arthritis more, so that you can discuss it with your healthcare professional.

The Arthritis Action website also has resources to help you manage your condition yourself, and help reduce the pain you're feeling in your joints. It may be worth reading through this, especially the pages on pain management and wellbeing.

Let us know how you get on!

With me it is widespread as mine 1st started in the neck & travelled down my spine & right hip. I am only now starting to get it in my hands
