New Here and In Some Pain

Hello... Although I am active on other HU forums it is my first time here.

Arthritis runs through the female line of the family. My late mother had a replacement hip, and arthritis in theower spine and various joints. My sister now suffers similarly with arthritis in the hip and lower bank.

Eleven years ago I suffered a fractured femur and had titanium plates and screws inserted. Around that time I also suffered two prolapsed discs (L4 & L5) in a separate accident ( definitely was not my year). Move on many years and besides lower back pain and bouts of sciatica, X-rays confirmed the hip on that side, and the ankle, had arthritis in them. I did try Naproxen but they seemed to have more problems than answers. There were some thoughts of a replacement hip but CVD culminating in a quadruple bypass last year overtook events.

I have been living with the lower back and hip pain for a while. But about a month ago the hip pain seemed to ramp up. Then two weeks ago the opposite knee became painful followed by the shoulder, on the same side as the hip, yesterday.

Forgive the rant - i have had to abandon the plans I had for today and am deeply frustrated by it. It feels like what my mother called a "flare up" that she suffered occasionally. Just after thoughts and ideas. Thanks for reading!

Hello

If it is arthritic pain you should try turmeric and black pepper capsules daily, they help a lot with my pains.. (don't use them if you are on blood thinners).

Also look into a anti-inflamation diet too, you can find more about it online.

Dear Michael JH I know your frustration. I am on an art group weekend holiday I missed these occasions more times than I have joined everyone, due to my OA. Only just properly diagnosed and adjusting and adapting. Just got a blue badge for parking and can’t believe this help to go places again. Just obtained a book ‘Say no to Arthritis’ a proven drug free guide to preventing and relieving arthritis’. Holford P . I am learning to pace my activities interspersed with rest. When I rest my legs I read, write, craft on the settee, so its rather nice to HAVE to rest more for once in my life. Managing the pain effectively is vital. Bought a TENS machine online for £20. Brilliant. Worth every penny. Keep being with good friends and family and flares do peak and pass and you’re not alone!

Hi MichaelJH,

I've been on several variants of Naproxen and currently take 500mg twice a day.

Basically all Naproxen is, is an anti-inflammatory.

If you're still in a lot of pain, talk to your doctor about it - not just for pain relief, but incase a condition has been worsened or you've developed something new.

I hope it improves for you. And remember, what works for one person may not work for another.

Not what you're looking for?
