Hi. I had my right hip replaced 16 months ago and was told then that after 12 months I would be put on the list for the left one to be done as x ray showed the same deterioration as the other one.
Now after several appointments a mri and X-ray (both done a year ago) I am still not on the list for replacement as they say x ray shows it’s not that bad ? They are now saying they need a second opinion and I’ll receive an appointment for that. I appreciate that they don’t want to do a replacement if it’s not necessary but the pain is awful and some days I can’ only walk a really sort distance . I am desperate for answers to the cause. Anyone been in the same position?

I really feel for you. It does seem that you have to go on at them to get anywhere. Don’t just accept what they say, tell them you are in awful pain. It does seem that those who shout loudest and also get a medic who also shouts on your behalf is what is needed.
Radiology and pain don't always line up. I'm currently the other way round from you..one hip replaced and the other one is 'radiological almost as bad' ( my surgeon told me). But it doesn't bother me 🤞so no need to do anything about it.
You need to keep stressing your pain and resulting disability. I hope you get sorted
Hi lizziep, with arthritis you do need to be persistant with them , however I was told injections where only available three times and it was that or shut up & put up with remaining pain in knee region. So there are numerous responses by specialist to treatment. Hence the reason I am a member & volunteer for Arthritis Action who advocate self management as you are the only one who can decide whats best for your pain even if it is herbal or otherwise and sometimes multi things together can help reduce the pain. I am trying a new herbal tablet that reduces inflammation but takes three months of trials and is not that cheap. New studies show many people with arthritis also have inflammation. Its been confirmed I have inflammation as well as damaged joints . Best Wishes for a reconsideration of your treatment . Have they offered pain patches as they are stronger pain killers. ? Most days I can't stand up from a seated position but eventually get going if I take it slowly but I have had an op on my knee . There is no perfect solution for arthritis just individual trial and error. Take Care
Seems like there is no one answer. Last time I had an injection to prove it was my hip and not referred pain. Injection worked for a couple of months showing it was my hip but no offer of another one. Let’s see what happens when I receive the next appointment. Thanks for replying and I hope you find relief from your pain.
That's so true plus whats good for one may not work for you . Thank you for reply if I find any wonder drug will let you know. Pain spoils all our daily activities thought you might like to know Versus Arthritis is campaigning for an end to Arthritic Pain for the future, But theres a long way to go yet . But it gives us hope I guess.
