I have Oesteo arthritis in knees, ankles, feet, etc and for years I have managed it by keeping joints active but now the Bakers cyst in one knee is flaring up a lot more and I am finding it difficult to keep swelling and pain away without taking too many over the counter pills. I would be grateful for some advice.

Osteoarthritis is hell I know. I also have it in my knees as well as my shoulders hands and spine. I started getting pain in the upper part of my spine at the end of last year. Trying to keep my joints active hasn't been easy for me. Fatigue sets information me at times and just drains the energy out of me. OTC drugs hasn't helped me at all. I haven't gotten any bakers cyst like you're talking about as of yet. But my feet and ankles have hurt as well. I hope you get some answers for yours soon 136out for your sake. Osteo is rough having to go through days with the pain. Mine has been sharp on some days. Take care. J. D. Quinn

Thanlks for your message I really appreciate hearing from others about a disease that creeps up on you and suddenly shows its full potential ! I do think it is affected by really damp weather, low pressure I guess. I am looking forward to some dryer days because it seems worse when there is a lot of moisture in the air. Like you I seem to have evidence if it in all my joints which take turns in flaring up ! 136 OUT

I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my hips, knees and ankles as well as my elbows and wrists. I didn't want to take medication so am going to see a chriropractor, twice a week at present and, although I have only had three sessions, I feel it is helping and the pain, although still there does not seem so bad.

Hello! You sound like me!....lots of arthritis but hate taking medications!

I've written other posts about the supplement I take which really helps. It's called BOSWELLIA SERRATA and is an inert natural anti-inflammatory. I've been taking it for around 4-5 years and very rarely need to use painkillers I've had two partial knee replacements and a thumb joint replacement in the last 6 years ....probably going to have an elbow one soon too..... But I manage to keep mobile , play a little golf and swim a mile 3 times a week.

I buy it through Amazon ....start with 2capsules 3 times a day. I started to feel the benefits quite quickly within 10 days. Within a month I'd stopped all other pain relief. After two months I reduced it to taking 2 capsules twice a day and that is my maintenance dose......if I get a bad day , I just 2 at lunchtime for a day or two.

Read up about it ....amazing stuff! It has also helped with my asthma. Let me know if you decide to try it and let me know how you get on.

All anti inflammatories I have tried, including turmeric and devil's claw, upset my stomach. What is Boswellia like in that respect? Any warnings on the bottle?

I have also found all anti inflammatories , turmeric etc have upset my stomach badly!

I don't have any problems with the Boswellia....... I did find a little bit of loose bowel movements when I first started but that settled.

Quote: "Boswellia Serrata, via its active boswellic acids, appears to be a novel inhibitory of a pro-inflammatory enzyme called 5-Lipoxygenase and may possess other anti-inflammatory effects (such as nF-kB inhibition, which are not as novel). These anti-inflammatory effects have been investigated for their benefits in osteoarthritis (OA), and it appears that oral Boswellia supplements can suppress pain and immobility associated with OA quite significantly with the effects taking as little as a week to occur. The studies are well conducted, but funded by the producers of the tested supplements. There are limited non-funded interventions with Boswellic for this claim, but they seem to agree with the battery of funded study in effect size."

A few years ago when I first had Bakers knee I was fortunate to have an excellent G.P. who had a lot of experience of it as he also dealt with sports injuries where it is more common. He told me to to sit or lay with my leg raised with a pillow under my knee and to alternate putting a bag of frozen peas (wrapped in a tea towel) to it and then heat e.g. a hot water bottle as well as taking pain killers. I persevered with this until I believe the cyst must have burst, as the pain became very severe along the full length of my leg before it lessened. Although it still sometimes niggles me now I have not had it anywhere near as bad as then. Hope you manage to get it right as it is extremely painful. Goodluck😊
