Hi hodylad i too dont take flouxitine but like why says someone on here will take them i take citalopram at the moment so hang on someone will pop up no doubt a couple of my friends take them and they said they work for them everyone different and hello too welcome to the site why you beat me again hun xxxx
Thanks to you both whywhy and sheffield wed (too long outside the top flight that team), I'm knew to all this and just wanted to gather as many opinions as possible. I took citalopram myself for about two maybe three weeks, then i got put onto fluoxitine as it wasn't doing much. Maybe it was just the dose was too low. Or maybe just a case of different strokes for different folkes x
Hi body lad, you answered the question yourself 'different strokes for different folks'. Some people, most hopefully, swear by it, but it sent me into the worst anxiety I have experienced...I feel really bad telling you that now, but I was an extreme case. In the first few weeks it can enhance anxiety as a side effect, and hopefully in your case that would be mild or non-existent. I wish it had worked for me as I am now gaining weight on another anti-d. Best of luck. (You hear more good stories than bad) x
Thanks jpars. I think it's doing what it says on the tin, it's strange i think i had the "placebo" effect when i first took it. That wore off and now it's kicked in again scary side-effects that you read about though, the reduced libido thing is a worry but hopefully it won't be too problematic x
I'm laughing here as someone once told me not to read the side effects, and I've actually now stopped reading them when getting a new med, unless I suspect something x
I have been on them 6 weeks and they do seem to be working for me although they can take a few weeks to get into the system. The side effects listed are enough to make anyone get anxiety lol. Worth reading the leaflet though as it does give you useful information. Glad they seem to be working for you. This site does help a lot too.
Sorry forgot my manners welcome to the site xx
Hello and welcome to the best site ive come across in a long time with some of the best people on earth ive had the pleasure of talking to. Ive been on prozac now for 2 and a half years. I was first put on citralopram for about three weeks but could not stand the cronic headaches. Prozac for me has took the edge off, I stay on a low dose cos I prefer that. not sure if they have effected my libido or not cos anxiety and depression will kill it anyway;). What time of the day do you take your? Xxxxxx
First thing in the morning, I'm on a high dose right now (60mg) as this is just the start and my problems revolve around irrational, obsessive thinking so i'm told i need a high dose to try and break the thought patterns before i start cbt.
It does give me a form of relief and some normal sleep patterns back, but i'm so scared about some of the things i read online x
please dont read stuff on line cos you really dont know whats true or not. yes the side effects on the label are scary but the majority of them you wont even get. i take mine in the evening cos they make me sooooo sleepy but i think they are waking me up in the night so dont really no what to do there. im starting cbt this month. x
Hi lovely, you can search 'Fluoxetine' in the top right of the page and previous questions and blogs will come up that might help. I've definitely seen a few myself over the months. Ive been on Fluoxetine 20mg since Oct 2012 and been in therapy since Jan 2013, its definitely helped me but i went through some diar weeks first, make sure you've got some good support around you and keep note of any side effects you experience (if any) and make sure you let your GP know on each apt. I didnt as i trusted it was all part of the process, looking back that was probably a bit stupid, but then at the time i didnt really care what happened to me, hoping for the worst. They've definitely helped me get through the past 6 months, im on my first week without them, i think its too soon for me but im so scared about missing even more of my life so im trying to be clear of meds for the summer when im hoping to make it to a festival. Its possibly a very stupid decision but it seems to be one ive made regardless. Take care xx
I took this medication. It does exactly what it says on the leaflet. My anxiety, panic, everything went sky high. When I went back to my GP after 4 weeks for a repeat prescription and told him about these side effects, his reaction was " I wonder". I told him he should explain to his patients these horrible side effects. As I had endured 4 weeks on this medication I told him I would carry on, to see when they would kick in. All in, this took 6 weeks, and the feeling was great. So do carry on with them, as you can see it does take longer for some than others.
Before taking the medication my GP said he couldn't understand why I wasn't coping well with the depression and anxiety, as he said I was a person who's cup was always half full. But, as we all know, this can happen to anyone, especially after being told I would go blind.
Some GPs are better than others.
Do keep taking them and let us know when they begin to work for you.
By the way, I asked my GP how long I would be taking them. he recommended 6 months at least, which I did, then weaned myself off them. I'm still not fully there yet, but going out and about a bit every day makes a difference.
