Let us all ask ourselves something.

If out somewhere and approx half hour from home and went into a panic attack, felt disturbed anxiety. What would you do

1/ Turn around and go home because home is the safe place ?

2 Continue to where you were going and beat yourself up for thinking about going home ?

3 Would you take a few moments to calm yourself a little, focus on where you are going or just change direction and go somewhere else. ?

I do hope some of us can answer these without having to think about the answer.

Good luck

Hi, I think it's because I feel safe there and when in there nobody can see me. I can't bear the thought of anyone seeing me distressed. When I have visited my sister in the past I can stay because I have my own room to run to. If I am on a day out I have nowhere to go, so I don't go. Lol I need a portable , invisible room......if that makes any sense?

id go home, safe place where you can get your sensations that you feel under control.

Yes hun that makes lots of sense. May i suggest perhaps just make one up in your head, this works too. I just thought i would get some insight to why people go home. My guess as i wrote its a safe place to be because of no one seeing us. its not that people see us like this because people do just go about their buisness but we imagine they are looking at us and seeing what we are going through and i feel this is why its so important to retrain our mind. xxx

I would go home too! Although I would beat myself up for doing so! I like the idea of making a safe room in your head though. :)

thank you for your answer. Im glad i can see what others would do. Please do not take this the wrong way anyone who has read this or answered it. The going home is the one answer i knew i would get from people because this is what our subconcious immediately tells us to do, however this is something that we need to change, changing the sub concious mind will allow us to take a different approach. I know you probably already all know this but sometimes when it is wrote down we take note more... If that makes sense. Once we have mastered that we are half way there in coping with this horrible thing.... Yes i mean half way there, its like a big step over something that someone would have to take to reach the other side but we can do that in a small step because its just the mind we are changing and its not easy i know this but i will be perfectly honest with everyone it really does work... I am proof of this but not by doing CBT with anyone i have done this myself... xxx Good luck to everyone and i do hope that you can all get there too the same as me. Its a great feeling. I do still have panic attacks daily but i can cope with them now and shut them out, i just go with the flow and then they are gone. So that is a good place for me to be and probably many others. xxx
