hello everyone,

I found this site after googling free support for ones with severe social anxiety. After reading some postings I decided to join and here’s my first post. So, I have severe social anxiety. It’s odd though, when I’m in my comfort zone I can speak to strangers with no problem. For example, my job I’m a medical assistant and works directly with patients. But, because I’m in a place where Im comfortable, I seem to have no issues. I’m currently a nursing student and my social anxiety has become very apparent. I’m currently doing clinical rotations and my anxiety has become so apparent now it’s gotten to the point where it’s borderline panic attacks with profuse sweating. When this happens i immediately get to the nearest restroom to try and calm myself down. I love patient care and love helping people but being out of my comfort zone has really put a damper on my ability to provide the best service for my patients. Does anyone here have any advice/recommendations on how you’re working through your anxiety especially in places that are out of your comfort zone. I feel like I’m at a standstill and don’t know what else to do.

You mentioned that you seem fine in your comfort zone and most of your colleagues prob have no idea. I've done same over years and basically hid it well. I'd love to find way out of it, as it dominates your life doesn't it. I'm overwhelmed at number of people who suffer like this, as I thought it was rare and I was unlucky. Wishing you all best in your fight against this. If we come up with ideas then we can share. I've scoured Internet looking at things. Sure you have too.

Hell Kevo1. Yes, I’ve came up empty searching the web seeking ways that may help. I’ve seen a MD since my post. I’m going to try a low dose SSRI. I’ll update in the post regarding how effective it is in a few weeks. Also thanks for your kind words. I hope you the best as well.
