I was on the drug sertraline and have been on amitriptyline as well and had severe side affects to both which were similar to yours plus they made my tinnitus worse as well which went away or lessened when I stopped. Not forgetting you can't just stop as you have to wean yourself off them.I have now decided to avoid that type of drug altogether.

I have neuropathic pain and depression but I would rather suffer with them than take the drugs.

They do help a lot of people but if you are suffering speak to the doctor who prescribed them to see if there is an alternative.

Do not be put off by the doctors and ask.

Don't suffer in silence as lack of sleep is a greater risk to your wellbeing.

Take care and Good luck

Hi I too experienced all those symptoms you have mentioned and more , I persevered until to me it was a lesser of two evils and I couldn’t cope anymore , my sister took me back to the docs and I was weaned off asap and put on citilopram which was nowhere near as bad , I must admit tho nothing helped more than when I started to see a therapist, talking therapy and then CBT therapy was the best thing I ever did , im on no drugs now and doing so much better , the anxiety and depression tears it’s ugly head sometimes still but I’m so better equipped to deal with it now and of course my therapist is only on the end of a phone . Please keep your chin up there is always a way , what works for one person may not work for everyone but believe me there’s always a way . Good luck and take care . Tracey ❤️

I reacted really badly to sertraline the very first day and almost called the emergency doctor because of it. I stopped taking it straight away. I'm not a doctor, but I did read up on seratonine syndrome or shock which described what I was going through. I was very frightened by it, but I'm glad I tried something else. Later I tried citalopram and now have fluoxetin. I changed after a number of years because I had put on quite a bit of weight. I think I'm putting on fewer calories now, but have also done intermittent fasting and changed my diet. Anyway, both these drugs help me to function better.

hi ,

I’ve been on sertraline 50mg since October so 3 months now . My first week was so scary I went on what seemed to me like high on drugs I was so jittery and had headaches and like you I could not sleep . I also had nausea really bad and my jaw was clenching but I persevered with it as my doctor said give it a good 8 weeks and I am so glad I did because it’s been a game changer for me . Like others said these drugs aren’t for every one but I would see it out a little longer if you can to see if side affects go . I use to be against medication and have suffered so many years in anxiety and depression because of fear of side affects and I have to say it was the best decision in having a little faith .

Good luck and hope it all gets better for you.
