Morning Anxiety - High Cortisol

Looking for suggestions on extreme morning anxiety. It feels like I am about to fight a tiger. Heart is betting, the mind is racing with minor issues as if they were big problems. I have run all exams and the only things I got back was that my cortisol level is off the chart in the morning. This has been going on for about two years. I have been trying meditating which helps, but avoiding medication which I don’t well with. Any non-medication ideas?

Hi Jauge... It is very possible to use non-medication methods to lower morning cortisol levels.Meditation is a powerful tool as well as controlled breathing. The thing is once you are in

the throws of high anxiety symptoms it can take longer to get it under control.

The key is to use Meditation and Breathing several times a day. In this way, you build up a

tolerance to anxiety (chemical or situation wise) You want to saturate your subconscious mind with positive thoughts. Going to sleep with headphones/earbuds on while listening

to a self-hypnosis affirmative meditation can be more powerful than popping a pill.

Waking up to yet another meditation and breathing to start the day. And at least an afternoon break of yet another meditation and breathing in order to regenerate.

Eventually, all these positive affirmative words will become like a brain washing, changing

your thoughts as well as reaction.

Acceptance of anxiety being a negative thought that lies to us is also important to know.

That tiger stood at the foot of my bed on many mornings and now with a short 10-15 min meditation and breathing, the tiger is gone.

Proper breathing alone can and will reduce the levels of cortisol and adrenaline within moments. Each time it comes back, start in on your breathing exercise. The long slow exhales are what will produce the most dramatic change in the Fight or Flight response.

Practice, practice and believe that you have that power within your mind to change the

fear that is presented to you. MY best :) xx

Wow! Thank you soo much for the response. You gave me some really good pointers! I have been practicing meditation, but need to step up on the positive affirmation. Do you have any apps that you recommend for positive affirmations? Or should I just you tube and see what I find? Thanks again! I will print out your response above so it will be a good reminder from time to time.

Hi JaugeThese few are just the tip of the iceberg of help out there on YouTube.

Eventually you will find the videos that you respond to best.

Below are just a couple of my favorite speakers...

"Positive Affirmations to Overcome Anxiety, Panic Attacks and Stress/

I Am Affirmations" by Mind Body Soul

"Powerful Daily Affirmation for Anxiety, Stress and Panic Attacks"

by The Anxiety Guy (who was once a part of our forum)

"Spoken Affirmations for Panic Attack, Anxiety and to Calm Down"

by Jason Stephenson (mellow deep voice that draws you in)

"Affirmations for Morning Anxiety, Worry, Stress"

by The Anxiety Guy"

Most of these work best with time. Good Luck :) xx
