Slight very brief pinching feeling in throat at right side, I think (not sure) just below Adam's apple - otherwise no symptoms

Am male, 55 - I have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder - on sertraline and sleeping pills now. Anxiety has caused all sorts of problems - severe gastrointestinal in the past. Had stomach endoscopy in February, had CT thorax in April and had throat inspection six weeks ago - all OK, but this new slight pinching sensation is getting me worried about my throat and/or esophagus. I am a wreck and always think the sins of the past (smoking and drinking) will catch up with me. I have been very careful with my health for 2 or 3 years now (no smoking - hardly any spirits ). Can this sensation come from anxiety. PS have had GERD in the past. Thanks!

I get a sharp pinching pain on the side of my throat sometimes on my left and sometimes on my right. Sometimes when I move my head to the side I get the pain. It’s been off and on for about 10 years. My ent Dr doesn’t know what it is. My guess is it’s anxiety related muscle tension.

Thanks Ironj. I have been doing the googling and for throat cancer or esophagal cancer this does not appear to be a symptom. I guess it's anxiety related. I have to get a grip on this shit, otherwise I'm done!

I agree , I strongly don’t believe it’s from cancer either. Esophageal spasms maybe or tension from anxiety or both.

The big issue with having anxiety and the what if’s keep us looking for problem and Dr Google will keep us going round and round. Maybe try 600 mg of Advil to see if it eases up if so you know it’s maybe inflammation. Then move to a PIP for antacid. Do you take any anti anxiety meds like a benzodiazepine if not maybe trying that as a muscle relaxer.

In any of those scenarios anxiety and worry will cause the esophageal spasms, acid reflux and muscle tension.

If you find that an anti inflammatory med like Advil works add using a heating pad , rice bag heated up in the microwave and apply it to your neck / throat area.

Thanks John
